Bei einem heimlichen Ausflug in die Kastanienfabrik seines Dorfes landet ein unerschrockener junger Marienkäfer versehentlich in einer Pappschachtel und wird in die Karibik verschifft. Ohne zu zögern, begibt sich sein Papa auf eine abenteuerliche Reise, um den geliebten Nachwuchs zu finden. Endlich wieder vereint, stehen sie vor einer weiteren Herausforderung: Die Heimat ihrer neuen karibischen Marienkäferfreunde ist in Gefahr, von einer großen Baufirma zerstört zu werden. Zum Glück kann unser Held auf seine tierischen Freunde zählen, allen voran die schwarze Ameise und die clevere Spinne, die aus der Heimat zu Hilfe eilen! Gemeinsam entwickeln sie einen ausgeklügelten Plan, um das idyllische Paradies zu retten. (Weltkino)

Compared to the previous film, this one seemed somehow emptier and at the same time unnecessarily complicated with various subplots, but despite the multiple Pixar rip-offs, it was still beautiful with many disarming moments.

It noticeably lacks the directness, playfulness and scale of the first film, as well as the grotesqueness and development of one idea of the bedtime story template. There is hardly half as much as last time, and even the grotesque escapades are somewhat subdued. Compared to the first film and the series, it is more focused on smaller children, but at the same time it is much more edgy, which means that it does not avoid occasional passages when the little ones will freak out. None of this means, however, that it isn't still tacky cute fun, but you have to accept that it stands in the shadow of its predecessors.
