In 1966 the Spanish Army built a huge cemetery with over 5000 graves at Mirandilla Valley in Burgos for the final sequence in the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. After the shooting, the whole place was left behind and for 49 years, nature covered every tomb. In October 2015 a group of film fans decided to start digging--and under 3 inches of ground they found the original paved circle. For months, people from all around Europe traveled to Sad Hill to unearth and rebuild the place. Sad Hill Unearthed is the amazing story behind one of the most important locations in film history. Emotionaler Dokumentarfilm über Enthusiasten, die sich in Spanien an die Restaurierung eines Friedhofs gewagt haben, auf dem das Finale des Westernfilms Der Gute, der Böse und der Hässliche gedreht wurde. Es gebührt ihnen aller Respekt für diese Idee, Anstrengung und Entschlossenheit, denn es sieht großartig aus und der Film ist fesselnd, obwohl er größtenteils das enthält, was man angesichts eines solchen Themas erwarten würde. Alles wird jedoch unglaublich sympathisch und ehrlich präsentiert, neben der jahrelangen harten Arbeit der Hauptakteure zeigt der Film auch die Gemeinschaft der Filmfans (Freiwillige, Crowdfunding für Gräber) und es fehlen auch nicht die Kommentare einiger Mitglieder von Leone's Team (Eastwood, Morricone, Statisten-Zeitzeugen...), die den Film immer wieder mit Anekdoten von den Dreharbeiten würzen.
