The first season of anthology series Miracle Workers is a Heaven-set workplace comedy based on Simon Rich's book What in God's Name. The show stars Daniel Radcliffe, Steve Buscemi, Geraldine Viswanathan and Karan Soni. Radcliffe plays Craig, a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity's prayers, and Steve Buscemi plays Craig's boss God, who has pretty much checked out and is ready to move on to his next project. To prevent Earth's destruction, Craig and fellow angel Eliza (Geraldine Viswanathan) must answer a seemingly impossible prayer: help two humans, Laura and Sam, fall in love. (HBO Europe)

Miracle Workers (2019)

Englisch The series started off fairly decent; it wasn't a masterpiece by any means, but if you wanted to unwind and have some easy entertainment, both the first and second seasons fit the bill. That's why the third season came as such a big surprise to me; it was a steep decline in quality that left a bitter taste. While I used to enjoy it quite a bit, the third season was just dull, and the attempts to reference current events didn't help its case. / Lesson learned: Stay alert, unpleasant surprises are waiting for a chance to strike. Season 1 (2019) (S01)

Englisch A completely undemanding, relaxing series you can watch in a single afternoon. If I weren't an atheist, I would find God as portrayed by Steve Buscemi very realistic. The world seems to be ruled by exactly this sort of irresponsible dimwit. For once, I didn't mind the multicultural cast, this was exactly the type of series in which it fit perfectly (although the Indian woman as a barbarian warrior was a little odd to say the least...). It wasn't amazing, but it was funny. I had a few laughs, which is the whole point, right? ()

Dark Ages (2020) (S02)

Englisch Apart from the cast, the second season had nothing in common with the first (which makes the shared title a bit of a mystery). By that, I mean the story, which shifted from heavenly heights to the mud of a medieval village. Instead of heavenly realms, we got mud that's best not to dig into, and instead of celestial beings, we got subjects who seemed to have about as much say in their fate as livestock; all in all, it was quite a steep descent, but in terms of quality, it wasn't all that bad. It's still just easy entertainment, and the creators didn't aim for anything grander. Even though the humor was noticeably weaker compared to the previous season, each episode had a few moments that genuinely tickled my funny bone. It wasn't anywhere near Blackadder, but it didn't bore me either. / Lesson learned: Feel like your job is beneath you? Rise above it. ()

Oregon Trail (2021) (S03)

Englisch What a massive letdown. After two watchable seasons, the creators hit us with this crapfest. I honestly can't find another word to describe what I saw. I don't know how old I'd have to be to appreciate the humor. Twelve? The dialogue was pathetic, and I was bored out of my mind. / Lesson learned: If a series keeps getting worse with each season, it's time to bail. ()
