Dave (Nick Thune) ist Künstler, hat in seinem Leben allerdings noch nichts Erwähenswertes geschaffen. Aus Frustration baut er sich ein Fort aus Pappkartons in seinem Wohnzimmer. Als er sich darin zurückzieht, entspinnt sich im Innern eine magische Welt voller Fallen, Gefahren und Kreaturen – er sieht sich gefangen in und bedroht von seiner eigenen Kreation und kann nicht mehr aus eigener Kraft entkommen. Daves Freundin Annie (Meera Rohit Kumbhani) stellt ein exzentrisches Rettungsteam zusammen, um dem Gefangenen aus der Patsche zu helfen – obwohl dieser sie ausdrücklich vor einem Betreten des Labyrinths warnt. The creators obviously suffer from too much creativity. The film is original, brimming with ideas; it must have been a lot of work, but it’s also rather unfocused… and mainly, bullshit. The only thing that it’s really exploited is that one ethereal core idea, on which an increasing number of ideas and nonsense are piled up, and in the end, what happens doesn’t matter because it just happens. The cast looks like someone had put together the Dream Team of the most annoying characters in the entire history of American indie movies. I’m giving it a weak three stars, I’d rate it lower, but it would be a shame.
