Hu, Wang und Shirley waren einst berühmte Grabräuber – die sogenannten Mojin. Eigentlich hatte sich das Trio in New York zur Ruhe gesetzt, bis ein mysteriöser Auftrag sie an den Ort ihres früheren Wirkens lockt. Irgendwo in der Inneren Mongolei, versteckt im antiken Grab einer khitanischen Prinzessin, soll die „Blüte der Tagundnachtgleiche" liegen – ein Stein, dessen magische Kraft angeblich die Toten zum Leben erweckt. Doch die Ruhestätte wird bestens bewacht. Und so bekommen es unsere Helden bald mit Dämonen, Ghulen, Mumien und anderen Scheußlichkeiten zu tun, die sich den Forschern rachsüchtig in den Weg werfen. A high-budget horror film with nice visuals that also earned its keep, but unfortunately it's such a fun fairy tale. Due to the PG-13 rating, we don't get to see the gore, and there are quite a few zombies, but I liked the unadorned setting, which is very unusual for a horror film these days. I also liked the well-known actress Qi Shu, who is as adorable as ever. Funny, likeable, far-fetched in places, but good for a laugh. 60%.

This movie certainly isn't amazing, although it must be acknowledged that in the somewhat horror-like scenes, it is visually very well done. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard variation of Indiana Jones, with the obvious requirement for a happy ending, and a bit of darkness redeemed by the light at the end of the tunnel. As afternoon entertainment, though, it's quite enjoyable.
