New Line Cinemas "Vacation" mit Ed Helms ("Hangover"-Reihe) und Christina Applegate ("Anchorman"-Reihe) schickt die Familie auf eine Reise zu einem Abenteuer, das unter keinem guten Stern steht. Der Film ist das Regiedebüt von Jonathan Goldstein und John Francis Daley. Rusty Griswold (Helms) tritt in die Fußstapfen seines Vaters. Damit die Familie wieder mehr zusammenrückt, macht er mit seiner Frau Debbie (Applegate) und ihren beiden Söhnen eine Reise durch das Land zur "Walley World", Amerikas beliebtestem Familien-Erlebnispark. I liked that the writers went the official way and straight-up refer to the original Griswold family. We even got to see Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase at the end, which has made me very happy. But those might be the biggest upsides, because apart from that, the movie is pretty boring. The first half is only funny because the ugliest car ever – Honda Tartan Prancer – makes an appearance. And they milk it as much as possible. As soon as the second half comes, the comedy starts to decline. It’s not like it’s not there at all, it just doesn’t have what it takes for me to say: “well done”.

Aggressiver unangenehmer Film mit einfallsloser und schleppender Handlung, misslungenen und durchweg peinlichen Witzen, schlecht geführten und schlecht gespielten Schauspielern und einer Vielzahl von sinnlosen und übertriebenen Vulgaritäten und Ekelhaftigkeiten. Die Geschichte ist völlig sinnlos und inkonsistent und zerfällt in einen Wirrwarr von zusammenhanglosen Szenen, in denen sich die verzweifelt unsympathischen Helden wie geistesgestörte Wahnsinnige verhalten, nur um am Ende mit Kot, Erbrochenem oder Kuhinnereien beschmutzt zu enden. I watched the movie for a while without laughing once, and just when I was about to start watching something else, Christina Applegate really got going and she kept me entertained till the end. All three stars go to Christina. If she hadn't given such a great performance, there wouldn’t be anything worth rating.

No, this comedy doesn't completely measure up for me, but I have to say that considering that American comedies are usually dumb, this is one of those where there are moments that are genuinely funny. There's a lot of awkwardness here, but the bullying of the older brother, for example, is perfect. Chevy Chase is tragic, which is a shame, but other than that, I had quite a good time.
