Als der millionenschwere Hedge-Fonds-Manager James King (Will Ferrell) wegen Betrugs verurteilt wird und seine Haft in San Quentin antreten soll, setzt der Richter den Strafbeginn für 30 Tage aus, damit James vorher seine Geschäfte regeln kann. In seiner Verzweiflung bittet James Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart), ihn auf das Leben im Knast vorzubereiten. Doch obwohl der superreiche James von seinen Vorurteilen felsenfest überzeugt ist, irrt er sich: Als fleißiger Chef seiner kleinen Firma ist Darnell nicht einmal als Falschparker je belangt worden – von einer Gefängnisstrafe ganz zu schweigen. Dennoch bemühen sich die beiden nach Kräften, James für das Kommende abzuhärten, und dabei lernen sie, jede Menge Ressentiments und Antipathien zu überwinden – vor allem, was ihre vorgefasste Meinung voneinander angeht. Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell make for a good duo. Honestly, it’s been a long time since I was this happy about a pair of guys, one of whom is black and the other white. It might have been a little bit too crazy at times, which is exactly something you can expect with those two dorks, but on the other hand, it met my expectations and even though a few of the scenes were a bit weaker, I overall had a good time watching Get Hard.

It's a classic contemporary comedy. A fairly good idea, lots of funny faces and overacting, which is basically required in the case of Ferrell and Hart, and in the end, just a disappointing bonding of both characters. The potential that was here is clearly wasted, which, according to me, is quite a big problem. It is truly only a little bit humorous.
