Nutzerkritik Necrotongue zur diesen Serie (75)

Tunnelblick (2020) (S06E05)

Englisch Once again, I was pleased with how the investigation unfolded. It's a refreshing departure from the classic detective stories (though I do enjoy those too), where the detective lays out their mental processes and through sheer deduction, corners the culprit into a confession. Here, evidence is meticulously gathered, piece by piece, until it all forms an unbreakable whole... But then come the lawyers. / Lesson learned: Looking to become mayor? Get married. 4*+ ()

Das Ace Hotel (2020) (S06E06)

Englisch I'm starting to feel a glimmer of hope that the sixth season won't go down as one of the series' worst. I'm really digging the Hollywood division's storyline, though I'm a bit worried that Bosch might get a heart attack from all the stress. One case seems nearly closed, yet they're still putting in extra hours, investigating almost as a side hustle... I mean, that's a surefire way to develop a stomach ulcer, if not something worse. The creators are still keeping me entertained without showing any signs of strain; just the way I like it. / Lesson learned: When you need someone taken care of, best to leave it to the professionals. 4*+ ()

Nichts für ungut! (2020) (S06E07)

Englisch The seventh episode really hammered home my feelings about American hypocrisy. Books and movies that don't fit the current political narrative are banned, yet owning enough guns to fill a warehouse is perfectly acceptable. Pornography and erotica are evil, yet violent video game scenes are considered entertainment. Certain hateful religions (insert whichever one grinds your gears) get a pass, but if a straight guy acts chivalrous towards a woman, suddenly he's perpetuating gender inequality and labeled a sexual predator. This episode really stirred up these sentiments in me, for which it deserves five stars. / Lesson learned: Looking for a peaceful and relaxed life? It's where political correctness isn't a priority. ()

Trittbrettfahrer (2020) (S06E08)

Englisch Another episode blending investigation with accusations of sexual harassment. The investigation itself left me satisfied, just two more good episodes and I'll be singing praises for the whole series. / Lesson learned: Always be on your best behavior because TV walls are around you and Big Brother is watching. ()

Unheilvolle Nacht (2020) (S06E09)

Englisch I really appreciate how the sixth season dives deep into investigations amidst all the political turmoil and exposés. Once again, the creators weave multiple cases together, progressing them step by step, which lends a realistic feel to the police work. Considering the current climate, I imagine the series might face challenges in its home country. But despite that, I still find myself enjoying Bosch. / Lesson learned: Want influence in different parts of the world, get the local criminals to work for you. 4*+ ()

Der Rechtschaffene (2020) (S06E10)

Englisch I've been praising the creators in my reviews of each episode... And then they hit me with this in the finale. To be fair, the plot was cruising along just fine, I was feeling content, when suddenly they decided to throw in a curveball with a backpack, and all the chaos that ensued. Just when you're enjoying what seems like fairly realistic police work, bam! The main hero turns into an unstoppable action hero in an indestructible off-the-rack suit, and you find that he regularly uses a Claymore for dental hygiene. I was more than a little irked, so I docked it two stars, leaving it with just three. / Lesson learned: If there's a bomb north of you, run south. ()

Season 7 (2021) (S07)

Englisch The seventh season didn't start off well, but I like how it turned out. In the first three episodes, the creators focused more on less significant matters than on the investigation for some incomprehensible reason. It is confusing for me in a crime series, so I was beginning to lose interest in the whole season, but it seems that the writer had an epiphany in the fourth episode. The side storylines remained side storylines, an investigation began, and I ended up satisfied. / Lesson learned: Many life choices are not really choices; they somehow happen to a person. ()

Das Jahr beginnt (2021) (S07E01)

Englisch The seventh season of adventures of my favorite detective made it clear to me right in the opening episode that the screenwriters have at least heard of Michael Connelly and maybe even read something by him, but they were not too influenced by it. While I can't put down the author's books until I finish reading them, this episode didn't hold my attention too much. I'm used to the political scheming of the police in Connelly's stories, but what bothered me was the amount of completely unnecessary, filler dialogue that only stretched the plot instead of moving it forward. To sum it up, very little happened in those approximately forty minutes, and I'm disappointed because I expected a much more dynamic plot. I'm willing to go as high as three stars because it was just an introductory episode to the new season. / Lesson learned: There's no smoke without fire. 3*- ()

Kleiner Fisch, großer Fisch (2021) (S07E02)

Englisch Arson was still being investigated, but I couldn't help feeling it was there just for appearance's sake. It's Bosch, after all, so some police work is expected to keep the viewers happy. The creators probably thought this when they filled the second episode with several uninteresting subplots, while not much significant happened in the main storyline (the investigation). Not even the second episode made up for the shaky beginning, and I'm afraid this season won't belong to my favorite ones. / Lesson learned: Are you losing ground? Hope for an extremely rapid evolutionary development. ()

Wer zu viel weiß... (2021) (S07E03)

Englisch The creators have finally started to focus on making a good old detective story. The third episode was the most "Bosch-like" so far, yet I still think it had a long way to go to reach the best of the series. Although I wasn't disappointed, it still left a lot to be desired. Bosch's dissatisfaction with J. Edgar's approach and their subsequent conflicts at least remotely resembled the book it was based on. All I can do is hope that the seventh season will eventually pick up the right pace. / Lesson learned: Not every intention turns out as planned. 3*+ ()

Doppelmord (2021) (S07E04)

Englisch I finally got to see an episode that I enjoyed. It was closer to how I imagine the rest of the seventh season. The focus was on the investigation, while the bullying and politics remained just background noise. I suddenly felt much better about it than the previous episodes. I had to admire Chief Irving again, who didn't mess around with any electronic nonsense, and his bug had the appropriate height and weight:-) I was pleased, and I hope it wasn't just a one-off. / Lesson learned: It might sound strange, but sometimes parents really do mean well. ()

Schlusslinie (2021) (S07E05)

Englisch The fifth episode kept up the quality of the previous one, so I didn't have many reasons to be dissatisfied. The only thing that surprised me was that the creators didn't remember their own script. Last time,e I learned that the victims were shot with a smaller caliber weapon (logically, I assumed it was 6.35), but this time it was a nine-millimeter. Other than that, I was okay with the plot; the investigation was intense, with obstacles, as expected. Chief Irving found his taste for blood again, and I'm looking forward to the next episode, which didn't happen to me after the first three. / Lesson learned: Don't you love it when you can rely on your colleagues at work? ()

Das Gemeinwohl (2021) (S07E06)

Englisch I initially had doubts about the seventh season, but now I am satisfied. The sixth episode maintained the quality of the previous two episodes. It brought an exciting plot that wasn't boring, and I didn't have to wonder why the investigation wasn't at the center of focus. It all worked out pretty well, and I believe even Michael Connelly can be quite satisfied with this mix of drama, action, and politics. I couldn't help but notice that Chief Irving has finally found a loophole he can use for his ambitions, and Bosch won't be pleased about the price he will have to pay. / Lesson learned: Being the only connecting link is a thankless job. ()

Workaround (2021) (S07E07)

Englisch I'm glad the penultimate episode wasn't just dull filler before the finale. The creators decided to resolve another subplot that initially seemed boring and annoying, only to eventually show that it wasn't as bad as it appeared. Especially Lieutenant Billet's storyline was very entertaining, even though it seemed like just another annoying side plot. I'm very interested in how it will all turn out because it feels like the whole precinct is somewhat falling apart. / Lesson learned: When trying to escape the law, don't act like a complete idiot. ()

Por Sonia (2021) (S07E08)

Englisch I did like the finale, even though I found some things difficult to process because the creators let their imaginations run wild. Well, who cares? After all, it's not a realistic series, so I ignore some things. I must admit that I was worried about the final episode because I wasn't sure if the creators would return to the unconvincing performance from the beginning of the series. It turned out that my concerns were unnecessary because they decided not to lower the bar that was raised after the third episode. / Lesson learned: Deals with murderers make me angry. ()
