Evan Lake (Nicolas Cage) hat in seiner langjährigen CIA-Laufbahn schon viele Kämpfe erfolgreich ausgetragen, doch diesen kann er nicht gewinnen: Er erfährt, dass er an einer besonders aggressiven Form von Alzheimer leidet, es bleibt ihm nicht mehr viel Zeit. Dabei zählt jede Minute, denn die Hinweise häufen sich, dass der tot geglaubte Topterrorist Banir (Alexander Karim) noch lebt! Als Lakes Vorgesetzte von seiner Krankheit erfahren, muss er allerdings seinen Dienst quittieren. Dies hält ihn nicht davon ab, gemeinsam mit seinem unerfahrenen Schützling Milton Schultz (Anton Yelchin) auf eigene Faust die frische Spur aufzunehmen. Nicolas Cage’s movies have been really declining in quality. The emphasis put on his injured right ear was almost ridiculous. It’s clear that he no longer knows what kind of movies he should appear in, and that he’s taking way too many roles. The only good thing was that this movie didn’t have the three-hour running time the creators originally planned for, because otherwise I’d not have finished watching it.

I simply like Nicolas Cage, and maybe that's precisely why he doesn't really care what he plays in. He chooses roles like on an assembly line and recently he regularly appears in B-movie productions. However, this political thriller is not bad at all and it works well as a B-movie production, thanks to Cage's acting, which is traditional but still enjoyable to me. Plus, he has another excellent look again.
