Der biedere Bankberater Till Reiners (AXEL STEIN) hat mal wieder keinen guten Tag. Er ist gelangweilt. Von seinem Job, seinem kleinstädtischen Leben und von sich selbst. Und er ist frustriert von seiner Ehe mit Miriam (ANNA MARIA MÜHE), die irgendwo zwischen Alltagstrott und Windelwechseln ihr Feuer verloren hat. Soll das wirklich schon alles gewesen sein, was das Leben ihm zu bieten hat? Doch dann kommt plötzlich alles ganz anders. Denn eines Tages überfällt Gelegenheitsgangster Nappo (MORITZ BLEIBTREU) Tills Bank - und nimmt ihn als Geisel. Dadurch wird eine wahnwitzige Kette von unvorhergesehenen Ereignissen in Gang gesetzt, die Tills und Nappos Leben in nur 48 Stunden kräftig durcheinander wirbelt. Denn wie sich bald herausstellt, steckt in dem vermeintlichen Spießer Till weit mehr, als Nappo jemals ahnen konnte. Eine Art Heist-Genre-Film, welche von Hollywood in den Kinos außerhalb der Saison aufgeführt wird; in einer deutschen Fassung. Er ist OK. Nach einem langsamen und bekannten Anfang gewinnt der Film an Schwung und sorgt für eine solide Unterhaltung. Aber das Gefühl, dass man das schon irgendwo gesehen hat, bleibt. Wenn Sie ein Fan von Moritz Bleibtreu sind, werden Sie den Film vielleicht mit 4* bewerten. Obwohl er hier einen Verrückten spielt. Und für einen – vielleicht den witzigsten Augenblick im Film – erscheint auch der Freund Til Schweiger.

Based on the last German comedy I saw (Suck Me Shakespeer), I assumed that Not My Day could be of a similar nature. Moreover, it’s the same producers that are signed under it. But it turned out that the humor didn’t suit me at all. The creators insulted everything they could get their hands on, including our nation and the Škoda Company. Personally, I don’t need a shitty German screenwriter to write for a film that our nation sucks and the only good thing about us is that we have whores, and then I’m supposed to watch it and have fun. For example, I understand that in the end they also leaned into their own past hard, to compensate a bit for everything else that they managed to insult during the film. But that wasn’t enough. It gave me the impression the Germans are already fed up withbeing contrite and so they are getting a little naughty. So this was not for me. I could take this stupid bullshit from anyone, but definitely not from them.

Oh, this is great! The Germans can surprise sometimes and this kidnap road trip suited me. It has an interesting story with a guy robbing a bank and taking a teller hostage, who volunteers to help him, and they have an incredible adventure together. Moritz Bleibtreu is excellent as the robber/kidnapper, a hard rocker who doesn't give a shit and is a joy to talk to, and Axel Stein is a typical wimp, but who turns from a normal decent person into an out of control "animal" in one day? Nicely written characters, great jokes. For me, great fun, balancing between 4 and 5 stars. 85%.

I started watching the film on a yellow bus, but I got sick, so I decided I'd rather finish it at home, if at all. In the end, I did, and I must say that this definitely isn't one of the better German comedies of recent times. There are too many boring moments and the finale is pretty dull.
