Sense8 (2015)

Englisch Initially, the premise intrigued me and promised a great experience, but it gradually dawned on me that I’m not the target demographic. The story itself was heavily sidelined in favor of promoting the “rainbow flag” movement. It was annoying. I'm not a homophobe, everyone should live their life as they wish, I'm not against gay and lesbian marriage, I have nothing against gender reassignment (if the participants are okay with it, why should I object?). But what I really hate is when I become the target of such propaganda and when the creators decide to trim the story down so that they can fit more soft porn in it (luckily not very often). I think this was an unnecessarily wasted opportunity because the idea had great potential. ()

Season 1 (2015) (S01)

Englisch I had fun whenever there was a crisis and the characters were able to cooperate thanks to their connection. I was also intrigued by looking into their past. What I didn’t like all that much was when the sisters decided to share with me what turned them on. I don't think of myself as a homophobe, it takes all kinds, but I really don't enjoy watching that. Plus, Lito and Hernando’s kissing scenes always made me think of Velcro for some reason. Oddly enough, I never feel that way about lesbian scenes... Anyway, I find the premise of mind-to-mind communication great. It's what makes me want to watch the next season. ()

Limbische Resonanz (2015) (S01E01)

Englisch A standard pilot episode, designed to introduce the story and characters. It was a mixed bag - I got to meet the main characters (and there are quite a few), but given their number, I only learned some surface-level details about each of them. The storyline was still pretty unclear after this episode; I have a basic idea, but that's about it. Despite these issues, I have to admit that the concept of interconnected minds from different parts of the world intrigued me, and I'll definitely keep watching. ()

Ich bin auch ein Wir (2015) (S01E02)

Englisch I might have a serious problem with this show, even though it still seems interesting. I was frustrated that I learned very little about the characters and story once again. On the other hand, I learned more about Nomi than I ever wanted to know. It feels like the writers, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, created Nomi/Michael as a form of unnecessary self-promotion. ()

Wer Ahnung hat, setzt auf die dünne Schlampe (2015) (S01E03)

Englisch The third episode turned things around for me. I’m finally getting to know the characters better, and for the first time, there’s a strong connection between them. This sets up a promising development for the future. ()

What’s Going On? (2015) (S01E04)

Englisch The storyline was pretty engaging, and the creators did a great job of introducing me to Sun Bak. I also appreciated the stronger connections forming within the Sensates. Plus, the debates over the details of the Indian wedding ceremony were quite entertaining. ()

Kunst ist wie Religion (2015) (S01E05)

Englisch Lito's character saved this episode — his connection with Sun genuinely made me laugh. Otherwise, I was pretty disappointed. It felt like the script was stuck, repeating the same old things in a slightly different way. I didn't notice any significant development in the story. ()

Dämonen (2015) (S01E06)

Englisch A significant improvement over the previous episode, even though I could have done without the swingers party — way too much testosterone for my taste. The story finally moved forward, but I wish there was more action instead of all the constant making out. ()

WWNDT (2015) (S01E07)

Englisch The story progressed nicely, the pacing was solid, and even though the make-out sessions didn't thrill me, the creators finally ramped up the action, making it much more engaging to watch. ()

Das Einzige, was zählt, ist der Mut in unseren Herzen (2015) (S01E08)

Englisch Nomi's escape was a highlight, but I'm getting increasingly annoyed by the relationship drama. It feels like each episode is split into two parts, and the romantic one is becoming a real drag. Important plot points often get sidelined for more face-sucking between the characters. Sure, Dani might be into it, but it’s just irritating for me. The endless make-out scenes are too much — once you've seen one, you've seen them all. ()

Der Tod lässt keinen Abschied zu (2015) (S01E09)

Englisch Well, here we go again. The episode focused too much on various relationships, losing its momentum as most of the plot revolved around Lito's heartbreak over losing his precious. This didn’t really excite me. The only highlight was the powerful suicide scene. ()

Was macht den Menschen aus? (2015) (S01E10)

Englisch Wolfgang managed to earn the third star for this episode. I don’t understand why the creators are so desperate to avoid more action-packed scenes with the interconnected characters. Sure, we get one of these scenes per episode, but why be so stingy with them? If they're saving it all for an amazing finale, they risk losing viewers' interest — nobody wants to wait forever. ()

Gas geben und die Zukunft ändert sich (2015) (S01E11)

Englisch Wow, this episode really brought the story to life. When all the ingredients are balanced, everything works well, just like in cooking. But when the script focuses too much on relationships or lengthy conversations, it loses its appeal. This time, there was some action, making everything much more interesting. I'm not saying it always needs to be violent scenes, but the characters should collaborate more often to keep things dynamic. Endless staring contests and drawn-out kisses kill the story's momentum. ()

Ich kann sie nicht zurücklassen (2015) (S01E12)

Englisch The final episode was divided into two parts, and I enjoyed both. The first part focused on the attempt to rescue Riley in Iceland, revealing some new information along the way. The second part centered on Wolfgang's efforts to carve out his own space. A very solid episode overall. ()

Season 2 (2016) (S02)

Englisch I was far from satisfied with Season 2. What annoyed me was the creators’ approach (especially Lana Wachowski), who focused too little on the main story, reveling in steamy scenes and almost soap-opera-like subplots instead. In the end, not even a two-hour running time was enough for the final episode. Corners had to be cut, which, especially regarding Mr. Hoy was almost a disgrace, and it didn’t do the series any good. ()

F*cking Frohes Neues (2016) (S02E01)

Englisch After eagerly anticipating the new season, it left me sorely disappointed. The cringeworthy cover of Nina Simone's iconic song set the tone, and it only went downhill from there. Essentially, it felt like a two-hour promotion for the LGBT community, complete with a swingers party. The dull plots of the birthday and Christmas celebrations were made worse by equally uninspiring music (I lost count of how many times they covered "Hallelujah"). If it wasn't for a couple of decent action sequences involving all the main characters, I wouldn't even give it that one star. ()

Wer bin ich? (2017) (S02E02)

Englisch I braced myself for another potentially dull episode, but to my surprise, the creators threw in a plot twist I didn't see coming after the last one. While I didn't care much for the LGBTQ+ issues, the rest of the storylines managed to hold my interest, so I wasn't left feeling too disappointed. ()

Obligater Mutualismus (2017) (S02E03)

Englisch This plot was even more intriguing than in the last episode, and the more I dive into the series, the more convinced I am that the real highlights are the moments with Sun and Wolfgang. And, naturally, when all the main characters share the screen. ()

Polyphonie (2017) (S02E04)

Englisch Especially with the whole cluster working together, I thought it was shaping up to be a great episode. But as it unfolded, the story kind of lost steam, and by the end, I couldn't quite justify giving it more than three stars. ()

Angst war noch nie 'ne Hilfe (2017) (S02E05)

Englisch I'm sticking with the same rating as the last episode, but I have to say, this one was a tad better. Sun's plotline remains a highlight, but the drama surrounding Nomi's e-death and Riley and Will's adventures added some extra spice. Kept me engaged the whole time. 3*+ ()
