Der kleine Prinz

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is there, and whoever says he is not, does not wish to find him. The Little Prince was waiting for me here all the time, just in a different form. The original can be read three times there and back in an afternoon, and each time it gives me something different, a different mood, a different direction in life, and a charge. The film takes all of this as its part, attributing more significant merits and thoughts to supporting characters we love so much, trying to unpack them into a more easily understandable and accessible experience for children. I cried, I laughed, but I was not amazed. That's why in the end, only four stars in the distant sky, with the understanding that something unexplained, no matter how brave and good-intentioned, is sometimes more than a lesson served on a silver platter. Es hat Tiefe, es ist nicht nur eine weitere animierte Geschichte mit einer langweiligen Handlung, wo man weiß, wie es sich entwickeln wird, nein, man ahnt nur manchmal und ab und zu kann es einen überraschen und es spielt keine Rolle, ob man das Buch kennt oder es früher in der Schule gelernt hat. Kurz gesagt, Der kleine Prinz in seiner Buchform hatte seinen Charme, und diese Verfilmung hat auch seinen gewissen Charme. Darüber hinaus ist es gelungen, eine ziemlich ordentliche emotionale Resonanz hervorzurufen, sodass ich sagen kann, dass ich die Geschichte miterlebt habe und obwohl sie stellenweise ziemlich traurig war, hat sie mir trotzdem sehr gut gefallen. Außerdem ist es den Autoren meiner Meinung nach sehr gut gelungen, den Kontrast zwischen der bunten Welt der Lebenden und der grauen und tristen Welt derer, die nur überleben, zu ziehen. Wenn ich sehr gute Musik, interessante Charaktere und einen tollen Plüschfuchs hinzufüge, bekomme ich eine sehr gelungene Erfahrung. Andererseits bin ich mir recht bewusst, dass die Animation nicht erstklassig war, was ich zum Beispiel bei Autos gesehen habe, aber ich muss erwähnen, dass ich die Kombination von 2 Arten der Animation in der klassischen Geschichte und über den kleinen Prinzen in Betracht gezogen habe, ich als sehr erfolgreich und originell sehe. Wenn ich es zusammenfasse, bin ich positiv überrascht und der Endeindruck ist für mich wirklich sehr gut. 8.6/10 (29.11.2015)

A famous fantasy tale immortalized through a modern socio-filmic lens that allows for a better portrayal of the main characters, a more accessible humorous narrative, and above all, an easier adaptation of Exupéry's timeless ideas for today's and tomorrow's youth. I really liked the varied stylization of the narrative, the flashback scenes focusing directly on passages from the book look exactly as I imagined them when I read them. My only quibble is the excessive runtime, where the film has not much to offer, especially in the middle part, and it unnecessarily delays the beginning of the original and hilarious climax. Even the book it’s based on is such a Coelho for autistic children, yet despite all efforts, the film lacks its existential loneliness. Instead, it struggles with the book's challenging ephemerality through a standard storyline cut straight out of the Pixar school, finding common ground between children and adults alike, resulting in a bizarre narrative patchwork that didn't make sense even to me. The first half of the film was excellent. I didn't even mind the modern setting. The second half of the film went off the rails a bit, but I won't take more than one star off, since it appealed even to a cynical bastard like me. I especially appreciate that the touching scenes were just touching and didn't turn into a melodrama. (15.01.2017)

I have a weakness for The Little Prince story and I was really worried about how the creators of this movie managed to adapt it to the present time and audience. I didn't have to worry. Definitely not so much. The original book story is beautifully retold here and there is something more added to it that works. At times, I felt like the whole magic was disappearing, but then a scene came along that reassured me that this is the right direction. And it is. (20.12.2015)
