Geography Club

Geography Club ist ein sympathisch gemachter Film, der dramatische und komödiantische Elemente sehr wirkungsvoll verbindet und eine Reihe aktueller Themen behandelt - von sexuellen Minderheiten über Mobbing bis hin zu zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen. Storytechnisch bietet der Film nichts Unbekanntes, aber er enthält einige denkwürdige Szenen, ob humorvoll (die Pflege der Puppe) oder ernsthaft (die Figur des Brian), die dem Film etwas von seiner trockenen Oberflächlichkeit nehmen, was auch durch das nicht völlig typische Ende gegeben war. A movie about a group of people who don't have an easy life. They are different. They stand out at first sight, or maybe only on the second. Either they are weird in appearance, or they are introverted, but they are warm. It is possible to live with this, but even nowadays, the world doesn't treat them very well. And especially at school. If this were to be revealed, it would be a big problem. That's why they come together within the framework of a geography club, which is, of course, just a cover. The relationships are resolved quite normally, but it is watchable if you don't have prejudices. It's just simply not something great. Good, yes. I'm sure the book adaptation will be more interesting. (01.02.2014)
