If the film weren't so straightforward and it wasn't essentially clear from the beginning how the main character would develop, maybe it would be a bit more interesting. But this is just a fairly ordinary, albeit polished, story of self-destruction, where it all comes down to whether the hero changes his fate in the end or not. I guess how it turns out is to be expected.
