Es ist das Jahr 1968: Die vier jungen und talentierten Australierinnen Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy) und Kay (Shari Sebbens) werden von dem Talent-Scout Dave Lovelace (Chris O'Dowd) entdeckt, der zwar nicht viel Rhythmus im Blut hat, dafür aber hervorragende Kenntnisse über Soul-Musik besitzt. Als die australische Antwort auf "The Supremes" angekündigt, verschafft er der Gesangs-Gruppe ihren ersten richtigen Gig.
