Seit Jahren leidet der alternde Komponist Tom unter schwerer Demenz. An sein Leben als Erwachsener kann er sich nicht entsinnen, nur die Erinnerungen an seine Kindheit sind ihm geblieben. Während er langsam immer tiefer ins Koma fällt, reist er als zehnjähriger Junge durch seine eigene Fantasie. Seine Tochter Gem, die sich dem über Jahre entfremdeten Vater wieder nähert, fürchtet seinen bevorstehenden Tod, doch durch seine dunkelsten Geheimnisse entdeckt sie einen Weg, Tom wiederzufinden... I really like the band Nightwish and their music. I like the combination of metal and the fairy-tale like atmosphere of the lyrics and melodies. A couple of days before I saw this film, I listened to the album ‘Imaginaerum’ and I said to myself that such beautiful music cannot be made into a bad movie. And I was right, even though the movie wasn’t what I’d thought it would be. The story is really abstract, which could also have occurred to me. But there isn’t as much music in this as I would’ve liked. The band doesn’t get that many live bits, which really is a terrible pity. I guess the whole thing is exactly as Tuomas Holopainen intended. That is as if I’d listened to somebody’s dream.
