Lügen, Gerüchte, Twitter (2018) (S07E08)

Englisch In the seventh season, for the first time, I didn't feel like searching for flaws, because I really enjoyed the episode's plot. I even had a good laugh at the agents' explanation of how they could lose a valuable witness - it was perfect! I consider this episode to be well done, although I think the writers keep copying dramatic conversations between the sisters from previous seasons. They could easily use a sentence like: (Maggie) "I'm giving you the 67th final chance, otherwise..." ()

Der nützliche Idiot (2018) (S07E09)

Englisch Either the ninth episode evoked a strong sense of déjà vu in me, or the creators decided to once again resort to repetitive procedures. Once again, I had to witness the rift between the sisters, once again, the best was being decided for Franny, even though it was clear how it would turn out, and once again, there was a nervous breakdown. Oh, and I almost forgot, there were also messages being sent via Twitter. ()

Die Uhr tickt (2018) (S07E10)

Englisch Hmmm, that was a surprise with Franny, huh? Seriously, who would have expected that? The character Carrie seems to be becoming less and less believable to me. Even if I were to admit that they would let her do some action in her mental state, I definitely wouldn't see her as an operative. I know, it has been seen in previous seasons as well, but it's still less and less realistic. ()

Die Welt sieht zu (2018) (S07E11)

Englisch It wasn't until the second time during the seventh season that I really enjoyed watching the episode. This time, the plot had its flaws, but it didn't bother me too much. The creators finally injected some proper action, and it was immediately noticeable. But it wasn't just about the action scenes, the quality of both delegations' negotiations was excellent, and I enjoyed this episode. ()

Die Brücke über die Narva (2018) (S07E12)

Englisch No, that was a whip in the end. This twist was really successful for the creators, thanks to it the whole series could be edited into about three meaningful episodes, it's a shame nobody did it. Anyway, I was surprised by what can be obtained for a tiny bit of sugar in today's overpriced times. ()

Season 8 (2020) (S08)

Englisch The eighth season was unbalanced, and the fairytale finale was a huge disappointment for me. All in all, it was a far cry from the Homeland I knew years ago when the series started, although there were moments when the creators seemed to have remembered their early work. 4*- ()

180 Tage (2020) (S08E01)

Englisch Despite my reservations about the seemingly unhinged Carrie being the CIA's main asset for the Kabul mission, I'll admit that the beginning of the eighth season took me by surprise. After the debacle of the previous season, I never imagined that I would still find Homeland as enjoyable as I once did. ()

Der große Schwindel (2020) (S08E02)

Englisch It's hard to say what exactly happened here. Either the creators started taking something or they stopped taking it. After the missteps of the seventh season, they managed to recapture the essence of Homeland, a series I once counted among my favorites. ()

Das unglückliche Land (2020) (S08E03)

Englisch The episode left me somewhat underwhelmed, making it the weakest one thus far. However, despite its shortcomings, there's still a lingering essence of the atmosphere that initially drew me to the series, which seems to be making a comeback. It feels like the creators are attempting to recapture the essence of what made the show great in the first place, and it seems to be working. ()

Präsidenten an Bord (2020) (S08E04)

Englisch I didn't like how the creators handled logic in this episode. I couldn't help but recall the meticulous security measures taken during the visit of the American president to Prague, where even manhole covers were sealed. Here, the screenwriter had only one helicopter assigned to cover a vital object in a war zone, and its crew failed to notice when the object vanished into thin air. Funny. Maybe. Or maybe not? ()

Der traurigste aller Tage (2020) (S08E05)

Englisch In contrast to the last episode, I found myself nudging the rating up. Either the logic held up better this time around (or maybe I've just grown accustomed to it). There was an added layer of tension, particularly in the action sequences. Now, I'm intrigued to see which of the two new presidents will emerge as the bigger moron. My money's on the American. ()

Zwei Minuten (2020) (S08E06)

Englisch While I did enjoy myself, there were still a few irksome moments. Yet, it's a whole other level compared to the terrible seventh season. It might not reach the same heights of quality as before, but I'm not inclined to nitpick unnecessarily. ()

Auge um Auge (2020) (S08E07)

Englisch The seventh episode might not have had the same adrenaline rush as the fifth, but it's currently my favorite of the eighth season. It had that classic Homeland vibe where Carrie stops at nothing to achieve her objectives, Saul's trying to make impossible deals, and this time, instead of Brody, we've got the Afghan Sandokan. It kept me on the edge of my seat and entertained throughout. ()

Jemand namens Max (2020) (S08E08)

Englisch The logic hiccups continued to plague the eighth episode. There's just something about Costa Ronin's characters that never fails to impress me. Whether he's a KGB officer in The Americans or a GRU officer here, I love his portrayal of a loyal patriot with an ulterior motive. ()

Zwischen Schwarz und Weiß (2020) (S08E09)

Englisch Ah, well, not every episode can be a winner. The creators started off strong, but somewhere along the way, they seemed to lose their footing, and this episode fell a bit flat for me. The main issue? It was just too predictable. It felt like I could see every twist coming from a mile away, which might catch someone off guard if they hadn't watched the earlier seasons or had a fuzzy memory of them. ()

Nutzlose Wahrheit (2020) (S08E10)

Englisch This episode was much better compared to the previous one. I'm not entirely sure if the creators intended to highlight the Russian threat through these political maneuvers, but what scared me most wasn't the Russians or the Taliban — it was that clueless puppet in the Oval Office. ()

Genossin Lehrerin (2020) (S08E11)

Englisch In the eleventh episode, an old sore spot of the series resurfaced, one that the creators seem to struggle with - the need to sacrifice logic for the sake of the story. Jenna Bragg became the Jar Jar Binks of the eighth season, and beyond everything else, what grated on me the most was the notion that Carrie would somehow move freely after her release without constant surveillance. Isn't this supposed to be a spy series? ()

Nacht über Moskau (2020) (S08E12)

Englisch Now, that's what I call a "grand" finale. Does every American show have to have a fairy-tale ending? The last sentence of the script probably read "And they all lived happily ever after." I find myself longing for a confrontation with reality. ()
