Red Dead Redemption: The Man from Blackwater

Rockstar decided to promote their game with a twenty-five minute commercial where they gave a gifted directed the first act of the game to work with. But he just pruned it brutally, stopped it making any sense and didn’t bestow any of his talent on it. In other words, as a free-standing short, this movie doesn’t really work. It’s a little better as a stylish commercial, but it is definitely far from ideal. Too bad; it was a good idea to start with, just badly executed. (01.06.2010)

Mit diesem Kurzfilm hatte ich als jemand, der das Spiel nicht kennt, ein paar Probleme. Erstens ist er zu lang (eine mörderische halbe Stunde), zweitens hat er keine besonders gute Animation (tja, ein Computerspiel ist ein Computerspiel). Die langweilige Geschichte könnte man – ohne zu übertreiben – als "alle bekanntesten Western-Klischees in einem Film" beschreiben. Wenn ich das Spiel kennen würde, hätte ich vielleicht eine andere Meinung. So kann ich sagen, dass mir die Musik gefallen hat, manche Aufnahmen und… Und was noch? Eigentlich nichts mehr. (14.08.2010)
