Alicia bides her time in a rural Midwestern hotel, waiting for Louis Canning to produce his client, the head of a large bank. Alicia needs to depose the CEO in order for Lockhart/Gardner to have a shot at winning their case. The suit claims that the bank foreclosed on several homes and let the properties decline. Mosquitoes bred in one of the stagnant swimming pools, and one of them gave a young girl the West Nile Virus that left her paralyzed. Canning, cagey as always, continues to stall as Alicia grows restless. Back in Chicago, Will continues to depose other key people in the case while fighting against Clarke Hayden, who has subpoenaed both name partners to bankruptcy court in an attempt to liquidate the firm. Eli starts feeling the heat as Frank Landau and the Chicago Democrats decide that he needs a second-in-command in case the government investigation into his crisis management business takes a turn for the worse.
