Total Detox

Endlich ein richtiger tschechischer Slasher. Man kann sehen, dass Roman Vojkůvka wieder etwas sicherer in seinen Schuhen steht, jeder Film bringt mehr Erfahrung und er entwickelt sich hinter der Kamera weiter. Es geht nicht nur um bessere Schauspieler, die angenehm real und lebendig sind. Es geht auch um Details. Der Regisseur (wenn er nur der Regisseur wäre, Roman hat im Grunde alles selbst gemacht, also Hut ab) hat sogar bei Kleinigkeiten wie den Plakaten an den Wänden, den eigenen Filmen im Fernsehen oder den Dialogen wie "Wir alle sind Kamil" gewonnen. Toll ist auch die überraschend hohe Anzahl an Todesfällen und eine Parade schöner Brüste. Wenn jemand Vojkůvka Geld für einen weiteren Film und freie Hand geben würde, gibt es keinen Zweifel, dass es eine großartige Vorstellung wäre. Natürlich auch mit besserem Klang und einfallsreicherem Gezeter der Kinder. (06.02.2011)

The fact that the film is amateurish is mainly apparent in the actors, although someone like Miroslav Rataj in the role of Artur already demonstrates long-standing acting experience. "Total Detox definitely belongs among the better horror contributions from talented Czech authors. There are moments when the film won't entertain you, when it fails to captivate you, but there are also moments when you will feel sorry that Czech horror is not financially supported more. The script is definitely not bad, although it is far from perfection as well. (15.07.2014)

Even though I really looked forward to Total Detox, my expectations weren’t high, because making a film in Czech amateur conditions (and horror at that) that wouldn’t be ridiculous, despite the clear efforts and enthusiasm of a fan… well, let’s just say that it’s not something you see very often. In Someone Down There Likes Me the director shows his understanding of the genre, but from the biased point of view of a viewer, I had many reservations about the film. Total Detox, in contrast, was a surprise, and a very nice one at that. The story is interesting above expectations and with a very good script. Some of the performances are still wooden, but most are average and there are a couple that are even excellent. In addition, the film as a whole has a very unsettling atmosphere that amplifies the uncompromising climax. I think that in amateur conditions, this couldn’t be more professional. (28.01.2011)
