Der kleine Nikolaus lebt in einem Fischerdorf. Als er seine Eltern verliert, beschließen die Dorfbewohner, dass jede Familie ihn für ein Jahr aufnimmt. Aus Dankbarkeit schnitzt Nikolaus den Kindern der Gastgeber kleine Geschenke an Weihnachten. Als er später die Werkstatt des brummigen Schreiners Isaac erbt, legt Nikolaus mit dem Schenken richtig los. (TELE 5)

The Finns shot a beautiful story about how Christmas came to be celebrated in Finland. Although I would say that an American kid wouldn’t be able to cope with some of the moments in the movie, I was very satisfied. What I found surprising was that the film tells the legend of Christmas in gradual timelines so over the 77 minutes the movie takes they manage to tell a story that is about half a century long. But I was satisfied. Great atmosphere, beautiful nature and those who know how Christmas is celebrated in Finland cannot be mad with Nikolas and his similarity to Santa Claus.
