Schwule Liebe, verfuehrerische Torten und eine dunkle Vergangenheit sind die Schichten der Filmtorte, die dem reizenden Sun-woo ins Gesicht gedrueckt wird, als er dem geheimnisvollen Erben Jin-hyuk seine Liebe gesteht. Doch so leicht laesst sich Sun-woo nicht abwimmeln. Als Jin-hyuk die Konditorei Antique eroefnet, kommt er nicht daran vorbei, Sun-woo einzustellen, der sich inzwischen in Paris zum Weltklasse-Patissier ausbilden ließ. Sun-woos suesse Kunst wird ein Hit. Jung und Alt und alle Geschlechter lieben sein Naschwerk. Jin-hyuk muss zwei weitere gut aussehende, junge Maenner anstellen, einen Lehrling für den Meisterkonditor und einen Bodyguard für sich. Denn Jin-hyuk wird von Alptraeumen geplagt und sucht die Antwort auf die Frage, warum er eine Konditorei aufmachen musste, obwohl er Kuchen hasst. Als der Pariser Ex-Lover von Sunwoo aufkreuzt, spitzt sich die Situation zu. Wie kann Jin-hyuk seinen Starbaecker halten, ohne mit ihm ins Bett zu gehen? Der Regisseur MIN Kyu-dong studierte Film in Korea und Paris. Sein Debuetfilm Memento Mori (1999) wurde von den Cahiers du Cinema zu den zehn besten Filmen des Jahres 1999 gezaehlt. All For Love (2005) war ein großer kommerzieller Erfolg in Korea. Antique ist eine delizioes melodramatische Komoedie fuer alle, die es bunt, suess, schrill und schick lieben. (Berlinale)

I have to admit that I kept drooling over the desserts, cupcakes... mmm... throughout the movie. I don't mind gay people one bit, but I was still missing the female gender. It didn't have to be about love between a man and a woman, but there could have been a lovable female friend. It might have broken the male vibe though. I haven't seen the Antique Bakery manga yet, so I have nothing to compare it to. Anyway, a good movie.

I didn't like it all that much – I kept having to compare it to an older Japanese series I'd seen earlier: I liked it better and it wasn't as gay. Nothing against it, I quite like it in the animated version, but the live-action version? Nope! It just didn't work for me here. Like in the series, the story was interesting, it can hold your attention, just not the second time around. Plus, the character of the boss's minion is so pathetic here, while in the series, where he was played by Abe Hiroshi, he was more... well, how can I put this – he was played by Abe Hiroshi! And I didn't like the character of the former boxer much either – oh, that series...! You just can't help but compare. It's not bad, it's fast, the actors are good, lots of sweet stuff. But I didn't want to see the two guys kissing and all that tenderness. Not here.
