Jolene (Jessica Chastain) is a red-haired wanderer who isn't content to call one place home for any expended stretch of time. Setting off to explore the outside world at age fifteen, the free-spirited teen embarks on a decade-long cross-country of adventure which finds her crossing the paths of everyone from a firebrand Texan (Dermont Mulroney) who steals her heart and destroys her marriage to his wealthy fundamentalist nephew (Michael Vartan), to an ex-mobster (Chazz Palminteri) attempting to make good in Las Vegas. Filmchallenge 2018 Nr. 2 - Filmschönheiten nach Meinung der User claudel, Enšpígl und Malarkey, Jessica Chastain. Diese Challenge habe ich hübsch scharf begonnen, noch nie habe ich Jessica so oft nackt und in so vielen gewagten Szenen gesehen. Ein unauffälliger und recht unbekannter Film, sehr traurig, mein Herz krampfte sich zusammen, wenn ich daran dachte, wie viele Ohrfeigen Jolene vom Leben schon bekommen hatte. Jessica war in ihrer Rolle hervorragend, und ich denke, alle Männer hätten gern Nebenrollen gespielt, die ihren Weg kreuzten. Ein super Beginn der Filmchallenge Nr. 2.

I can’t shake the feeling that Jessica Chastain slept her way up to the top of her acting career through the character of the brutally naïve Jolene. I mean, even her voice sounds naïve. It wasn’t awful, but I didn’t really root for her. For the two whole hours, I felt like she was just creating her own problems and I only paid real attention when boobs were on the screen.
