Von ihrem unsensiblem Mann frustriert, flüchtet sich die attraktive Mittvierzigerin Kate (Angie Dickinson) in erotische Tagträume. Ihr Psychiater Dr. Robert Elliott (Michael Caine) ermutigt sie zum Ausleben der Fantasien, worauf sie sich auf einen verführerischen Unbekannten einlässt, den sie im Museum kennenlernt. Beim Verlassen seines Hotelzimmers fällt ihr ein Dokument in die Hand, aus dem hervorgeht, dass er ihr eine ansteckende Geschlechtskrankheit verschwiegen hat, doch es kommt noch schlimmer: Im Fahrstuhl wird Kate von einer hoch gewachsenen blonden Frau aufgelauert und brutal mit einem Rasiermesser ermordet. Die Edelprostituierte Liz (Nancy Allen) muss mit ansehen, wie Kate stirbt, doch die Polizei glaubt ihr nicht, weil sich ihre Fingerabdrücke auf der Tatwaffe befinden. Liz stellt eigene Ermittlungen an und wird bald selbst von der mysteriösen blonden Mörderin verfolgt. Gemeinsam mit Peter (Keith Gordon), dem Sohn der Ermordeten, findet sie heraus, dass die mutmaßliche Täterin sich bei Dr. Elliott in psychologischer Behandlung befindet. Um an das Adressbuch des Psychiaters zu gelangen, gibt Liz sich als Patientin aus und erlebt dabei eine Überraschung. (ARD)
