Auf dem Weg zum Spring Break trifft das Studentenpärchen Grace und Jim auf den Anhalter John Ryder. Jim will den mysteriösen Fremden mitnehmen, doch Grace hat Angst und sie fahren weiter. Beim nächsten Tankstellenstop taucht der Fremde jedoch erneut auf und ein grausamer Albtraum beginnt. Schon bald treibt der Anhalter ein mörderisches Katz-und-Maus-Spiel mit Jim und Grace, in dessen Verlauf so mancher sein Leben lassen muss ... (Sat.1)

Another entirely unnecessary remake. It goes by pretty quickly, but the lack of thrilling moments and logical character behaviour makes The Hitcher a mediocre film at best – and that's only in the stronger moments.

Solid thriller, sufficiently dynamic, bloody, and relentless to captivate for about 90 minutes, with well-staged car accidents and a superb Sean Bean, he plays the killer role perfectly. The duo of teenagers doesn't offer anything innovative, but surprisingly, it's not too disruptive either. As a one-off, it's quite satisfying. If it weren't for the strong original, it could have been above average. I quite enjoyed it and didn't expect much, the atmosphere works, and technically, the film is on an excellent level.
