Karel Pokorný's television production brought viewers into the Hollywood environment. A film producer (the precise Václav Voska) is at his wit's end. He wants to give a very good female friend of his with a part in his new film, but his wife isn't happy about this. Shortly afterwards, his wife is found dead. The colour format allowed the relatively convincing opulent set-design to stand out, though the effect may be ruined slightly by the distinctly non-American Tesla telephones and televisions. Even so, the film managed to overcome the normal cardboard-like appearance of contemporary productions. Besides intrigue and manipulation, Odd Circumstances also shows us another dark side of Hollywood. Some performances by the contemporary acting elite are noteworthy – on behalf of them all we nominate Jana Hlaváčová, whose gutsy, passionate performance will engrave itself in your memory.
