Dieses Werk ist kein Mainstream-Science-Fiction-Film – dafür ist das Budget zu niedrig und es gibt hier zu viele Dialoge sowie Innenaufnahmen. Für ein intelligentes Kammerdrama ist der Film zu einfallslos und klischeehaft. Über die Figuren wird praktisch nichts gesagt, fast jede Wendung hat man schon woanders gesehen. Die visuelle Seite ist einfach, der Film ist schwächer als Event Horizon - Am Rande des Universums. Ich sage es nur ungern, aber auch der dumme Film The Core - Der innere Kern hat mir mehr Spaß gemacht. Danny, hör auf mit dem Scheiß und drehe endlich das PORNO (die angekündigte Fortsetzung von Trainspotting - Neue Helden, falls es jemand nicht wissen sollte).

Never mind that according to the scholarly press, Sunshine is science fiction with the most scientific and technical nonsense in years, because Danny Boyle's extremely evocative direction trumps every plot misstep. Whether it's the scene of adjusting the solar filter, repairing the protective panels, or the impressive flyover of Mercury silhouetted against the backdrop of a hot solar disc, Boyle has managed to awaken in me what I last experienced with Zemeckis' Contact: a fascination with space. And surprisingly, even the killer "zombie" at the end, whose existence in the film is so criticized, didn't bother me at all. On the contrary, with his "role" as a self-proclaimed god, he gave the film a tantalizing mysterious dimension. A must see if possible in the cinema, this is an audiovisual juggernaut designed for the big screen.

Was genau ist denn eigentlich Boyles Sunshine? Ein visueller Weltallaufsatz? Ein realistisches Drama aus dem All? Ein Katastrophenfilm? Ein Survival-Horrorfilm? Regelrecht sündhaft von allem etwas. Im ersten Filmteil wird gekonnt die Atmosphäre eines Raumschiffs dargelegt, welches sich einer Aufgabe von fataler Wichtigkeit nähert, ebenso die Beziehungen zwischen der Crew, eine sich verdichtende Atmosphäre, moralische Dilemmata sowie spannende Episoden aus dem Leben eines Astronauten. In mancher Hinsicht scheint sich Boyle um eine High-Tech-Version der 2001: Odyssee im Weltraum bemüht zu haben, jedoch unter Beibehaltung der klassischen Regieattribute beizubehalten. Einer krampfhaften Schnittarbeit. Ausdrucksstarkes schauspielerisches Handeln im Detail. Markante Soundtracks. Außerdem funktioniert dieser von der Handlung vollends ungebundene Abschnitt sehr gut, der künstlerische Aspekt ist perfekt, die Atmosphäre regelrecht absorbierend und die Spannung in einigen Sequenzen (Reparatur beschädigter Paneele) wird gut gesteigert. Die Kombination aus rohem Drama, spektakulärer Grafik und ein etwas Nachdenken schafft somit ein packendes Ganzes, das sich jedoch leider in der Mitte des Filmmaterial vor der Schlüsselfrage befindet ... wie geht es denn jetzt weiter? Sehr weit entfernt wirkt das Ganze, das Aufeinanderschichten der Probleme reicht für einen waschechten Handlungsstrang eben nicht aus ... und somit wird Sunshine zu einem sehr billigen Pseudo-Horror-Action-Killerfilm, bei dem die nervige Überspieltheit, verwirrte Schnittarbeit (die zum Beginn des Films vollends an Ordnung verliert) und löchrige Emmentalerlogik die Hauptrolle übernehmen. Den anstelle, dass Sunshine an Attraktivität gewann, verliert der Film diese erheblich und wird zu einer unerträglichen und überbezahlten Collage aus unterschiedlichen Bildern und eigennützigen Szenen. Der Schlussteil, der unter anderen Umständen gut ausklingen würde, verliert sich hier irgendwie im Nichts. Zumindest verließ ich den Kinosaal mit einem faden Nachgeschmack eines technisch gesehen großartigem, aber vollends verkorksten Science-Fiction-Film, der im ersten Teil intelligent, jedoch im zweiten Teil beträchtlich verblödet ist. Es ist wie dieser Sternenstaub. Sie berühren das Ganze und die Form zerbricht in lauter kleine Teilchen. Schade, drei Punkte für die tolle Atmosphäre der Einführung, das künstlerische Design sowie den sehr schönen Ton. Ja, der Vergleich mit dem Event Horizon – Am Rande des Universums ist in der Tat mehr als angebracht. Mitsamt der Art und Weise, wie es der Film vermag leider von einem ergiebigen zu einem albernen zu avancieren - leider.

Out comes the sun and dries up all the rain... If it weren’t for the needless screenwriter excess toward the end, Sunshine would have been a very good and intelligent catastrophe sci-fi picture. This way it remains “just" in the very good picture category. That excess is all the more disappointing because due to it the movie undergoes a pointless and demeaning complete change of genre for about ten minutes; such a good screenplay deserved a better idea. Boyle played around a lot with the visuals and it is really surprising to see just how many shades of yellow exist. The soundtrack is rather unusual, but the ambient harmonies of Underworld complements the overall atmosphere curiously well. Sunshine could have easily slipped into a deluge of pathos, heroic speeches and lots of clichés... But it didn’t and, thanks to it focusing on the excellently played characters, it remained teetering on the edge of intelligent popcorn movie cut with a picture with greater reach i the style of A Space Odyssey. And that’s really good. ♫ OST score: 4/5

Sunshine can ignite many emotions in the viewer, whether it's fear for the success of the mission, sympathy towards certain characters, admiration for others, or being moved. It was precisely the latter that caught me in two brilliantly composed and emotionally overwhelming scenes. If Sunshine is the film of the year in something, it's the atmosphere. Boyle played with many genres and wrapped the resulting mix in a golden cover with a pessimistic touch. The result is something that probably has no equal and that everyone should see and interpret for themselves, whether it's for the better or worse, because otherwise they have no chance of understanding what I'm talking about.

This movie really got to me. Because I'm the kind of guy who thinks a lot about the end of the world. How it's going to look. What exactly is going to happen to us? One of those considerations, of course, relates to the extinction of our sun. That big yellow ball I curse on these hot days. Danny Boyle, a director whom I didn’t know very well up until now (of course I'm going to change that now) literally glued me to my seat and dazzled my eyes with breathtaking visuals and great direction. The actors were also perfectly cast. I'll just mention the brilliant Cillian Murphy and the surprisingly great Chris Evans (this guy has a promising future ahead of him, I'm keeping my fingers crossed). What more to say. Best movie I've seen so far this year.

Visually impressive and with a very unconventional premise, but the end result is unfortunately somewhat mixed. Thank God it's not about philosophizing on the origin or decline of humanity (although someone occasionally utters something along those lines), but rather a fast-paced and intriguing sci-fi flick with a few truly action-packed and intense moments. Surprisingly, there is a lack of scientific jargon and analysis, which is good because viewers usually have a hard time understanding them. The problem are the characters, they are only superficially sketched and we don't really learn anything about them. Then there’s the unnamed immigrant, who sticks out like a sore thumb, and it’s precisely because of this that this solid sci-fi film loses most of its attractiveness and appeal, as towards the end it becomes just clichés and a cat-and-mouse game. Despite this fatal flaw, I must say that it is a very unconventional work and as such it cannot be rated merely average.

Gesehen bei der Challenge Tour - Film-Hunting: Aufgabe Nummer 23 - ein Film, der im Weltall spielt. Ein Film, der für die Kinos wie geschaffen ist, das muss eine Augenweide gewesen sein. Ich verstehe nicht, wie ich so dumm sein konnte und vor acht Jahren diesen audiovisuell wirkungsvollen und faszinierenden Film nicht im Kino angeschaut habe. Nun kann ich das nur bedauern. Doch auch zu Hause wusste ich Boyles visuelle Orgien gebührend zu schätzen. Boyle habe ich in den letzten Tagen schon zum zweiten Mal angeschaut, und im Unterschied zu dem psychedelischen Ausrutscher Trance hat mich Sunshine als gute und ausgefeilte Science Fiction erfreut. Über die letzte halbe Stunde ließe sich spekulieren, aber ich respektiere die Entscheidung der Macher.

Danny Boyle's contribution to the sci-fi genre is sort of a pleasant compromise in the end. Sunshine doesn't stand out for its pomposity or bombastic visuals, but it's exactly halfway between a grand space adventure and a cramped survival drama. Unfortunately, the script slightly staggers in its second half, but thanks to precise direction it is still a rather impressively made sci-fi, and for very modest money.

When I first saw Sunshine a long time ago, I was absolutely blown away by it. Today, after watching it again, my enthusiasm has somewhat diminished. I realize that there are a lot of inconsistencies in the movie, and the slightly horror-themed plot element bothers me a bit as well. But it is still an extraordinary audiovisual experience after all these years. And Cillian Murphy as the savior of planet Earth? What more could you ask for? (75%)
