A blind sculptor, with the aid of his mother, kidnaps and imprisons a young fashion model as a muse for his efforts to sculpt the perfect form. Set in a Dali-esque artist’s studio covered in sculptures of giant eyeballs, over-sized limbs and assorted body parts. (Independent Cinema Office)

Unpassend für mich. Im Wesentlichen nur ein Drama von drei Figuren auf kleinstem Raum, das sich allmählich in eine Tragödie übergeht. In den letzten zwanzig Minuten schockiert sowohl Erotik als auch selbstzerstörerische Besessenheit. Leider nahezu blutlos (für das, was dort vor sich ging), dafür mit einer ordentlichen Gabe Schauspiel beider Hauptprotagonisten. “Versetze mir einen Schnitt, bitte! Versetze mir einen Stich! Stärker, tiefer! Aaach...!“ Nun ja, ich denke das Ende ist schon ganz schön schräg.

Blind Beast follows in the footsteps of films like Onibaba or Woman in the Dunes. In a minimal space unfolds a human drama, this time intertwined with a real handicap, but also with art. Is Aki just a muse, or is it an attempt at redemption in front of his mother? Is art the sculptor's only way to live - to touch, and to love? It beautifully shifts who is in the spotlight, and who has the upper hand over others. It doesn't always have to be the one who kidnapped the girl. Actually, in the end, him the least of all.
