Mann, bist du Klasse!

Warum sollte ich es nicht zugeben, wenn es sowieso alle wissen: Manchmal bin ich ein schrecklicher Moralist. Warum hatte ich jetzt aber mit einer romantischen Komödie, deren Held ein untreuer Schürzenjäger ist, welcher ruhig eine andere Frau verführt, obwohl seine Ehe eigentlich idyllisch ist, nicht das geringste Problem? Nun ja, es ist das Verdienst von George Segal und Glenda Jackson. Sie sind ein wunderschönes, bezauberndes und sympathisches Paar. Außerdem ist das Drehbuch von Mann, bist du Klasse! voller Situationskomik und Worthumor. Es enthält perfekte Szenen wie "meine Frau, unsere Kinder und die Schwiegereltern fliegen mit uns“ oder "die Golfwette mit den Cousins der Freunde der Cousins…“. Zehn Minuten vor dem Ende hatte ich keine Ahnung, wie der Drehbuchautor und Regisseur in einer Person alles klären möchte. Das hat mir wahrscheinlich am meisten gefallen. Na ja… Ich denke, dass er es perfekt gelöst hat. Über Mann, bist du Klasse! habe ich mir wirklich sehr gefreut. (02.07.2014)

This film is classified as a comedy, and rightfully so. Especially in the first half, it features brilliantly written conversations with sparkling, well-crafted dialogues and creative gags in the spirit of the best traditions of British humor. However, the scope of the film is broader as it attempts to approach the subject of infidelity and sexual exploration more comprehensively, rather than just as a superficial farce. It is serious at times, looking into places that passionate and emotionally driven lovers usually overlook or do not want to see. The film lives up to its title: the script, direction, and performances are truly remarkable, so why not give it the highest rating, especially considering how underrated it seems to be on FilmBooster? It's astonishing that it has received so few reviews, especially since it has been on TV three times while I've been part of this database. Overall impression: 90%. (13.03.2017)

Quite an entertaining film with a good script, but it loses quality as the runtime progresses. It starts to get a little boring. To save it, the creators gave it an ending that might be slightly unexpected, contrasting with the classic approach of romantic films. But this isn't a classic romance.
