One day, on a whim, Marc decides to shave off the mustache he's worn all of his adult life. He waits patiently for his wife's reaction, but neither she nor his friends seem to notice. Stranger still, when he finally tells them, they all insist he never had a mustache. Is Marc going mad? Is he the victim of some elaborate conspiracy? Wenn Gogol von einer Nase geschrieben hat warum sollte Carrere nicht von einem Schnurrbart schreiben können. Das Ergebnis ist also insgesamt recht seltsam, aber vielleicht kommt das auch daher, dass ich die filmische Verarbeitung nicht verstanden habe und es angesichts meiner großen Müdigkeit auch nicht versuchen werde. Die erste Hälfte war gut, sie erfuhr eine anständige Steigerung, die zweite Hälfte war wie aus einer anderen Welt und faktisch wäre das ja auch so - von einer anderen Erdhalbkugel. Ein schauspielerisch sicherer Lindon, ein gut sekundierender Devos, Amalricos Auftritt ist lächerlich, er hätte mehr Raum bekommen können.

I would call this the most brutal déjà vu in movie history. The ending totally knocked me off (by which I mean I didn’t understand absolutely anything). I was feeling as if I were in some kind of completely incomprehensible world. However, the excellent performances, Phillip Glass’s music and an interesting premise (even though it ended the way it did) all deserve a three-star review.
