The director discusses film subjects with three screen-play writers. The three episodes are formed from readers' letters.
1.Tik tak!: Szobi, the old inn-keeper is about to marry his pretty and young maid, Pengő Julis, but the girl loves Keszeg András. Keszeg and Szobi make a bet. If the old man is able to tick-tack for five minutes, he will get the girl. Szobi cannot be removed from tick-tacking, but as he in the meantime notices how much the two young people fancy each other, he renounces his claim to the girl and accepts the attentions of the lady next door who is more of a match for him.
2.Shame of the regiment: The couple Kardos would like to get rid of their lazy maid, but the girl's fiancé, a soldier, threatens them. Their acquaintance, Mr. Simek, is willing to put on the uniform of a sergeant and throw out the useless maid and the foot-soldier for forty silver florins.
3.Dove-cote: The musician and medical student, living in the attic of the rich grocer, owe several months' rent. The grocer's daughter, Terike, falls in love with the musician, and she helps the students with food stolen from the shop. They are just about to make a feast in the room when the bailiff arrives, putting a lock on the cupboard hiding Terike. The medical student sets her free upon her mother's desperate begging, after having extracted her promise that Terike will be married to his friend, Jani.
