Glücklicherweise trifft Tim auf Barry (Steve Carell), einen Typen, der berühmte Kunstwerke mit ausgestopften Mäusen nachstellt. Steve Carell hat ein riesengroßes komödiantisches Potenzial. Eigentlich nicht nur ein komödiantisches. In einem Augenblick macht er sich zum Idioten und eine Sekunde später rührt er das Publikum mit einer Geschichte, die er mithilfe von präparierten Mäusen erzählt. Leider ist er aber auch mehr oder weniger das Einzige, was das Remake von Dinner für Spinner zu bieten hat. Der Rest ist (mit Ausnahme der sehr guten Musik von Shapiro) ein miserabler Quatsch, den es nicht hätte geben sollen. Das hat mich eigentlich gar nicht überrascht, weil das Team, das ihn auf dem Gewissen hat, sehr ähnlich wie das von Nie wieder Sex mit der Ex ist. Kurzum, ein überflüssiges Remake, das im Stil "je mehr, desto besser" gedreht wurde. Ich drücke Carell die Daumen, dass sein nächster Film besser ist.

I don't like it when Americans copy originals, but this movie, nevertheless, caught my attention at first sight. Two actors are mainly responsible for this - Chris O'Dowd, Zach Galifianakis. It was because of these two that I decided to watch it, and I survived that overcooked runtime. The truth is, it could have been much shorter. The beginning and half of the movie are actually huge and uninteresting boredom, but it really picks up at the dinner itself. Zach is in his element and Chris delivers a few good lines. However, in the end, the main highlight is Zach, who is a first-rate comedian in today's times. In the end, I didn't regret it. The dinner itself is worth watching, even though the rest is boring to the point it's not pretty.

Honestly, I just didn't enjoy this movie. Considering all the positive reviews from users I usually agree with, maybe the fault lies with me for not tuning into the movie's vibe. Most of the comedic moments just didn't land for me (except for Chris O'Dowd in the role of a blind fencer — when he turned off the lights to level the playing field, I couldn't help but burst out laughing). I frequently experienced second-hand embarrassment and, what's worse, I was often bored. For a comedy, that's a major issue. Plus, the creators threw in some clichés, and the icing on the cake was a melodramatic scene straight out of a Rosamunde Pilcher drama. What a waste of time. / Lesson learned: Do you get off on taxidermy? Count me out.

The film is simply a remake of a very successful French comedy and as such it's just not that funny. Not to mention the fact that Steve Carell has to goof around to be funny. Jacques Villeret didn't need that, he was funny in a natural sort of way. But not stupid. Carell is like that, but the script wants to give him more. It does not work.
