Girls Club - Vorsicht bissig!

The first hour is a seriously good teen comedy with no toilet humor and several gags that work. Unfortunately, afterwards it turns into something we’ve seen a thousand times already and so you quickly forget the impression it initially makes. But still, thanks to Lindsay Lohan who doubtlessly has a little comic talent, it is watchable without being any health hazard. (26.12.2006)

When you like a teenage romantic comedy, admit it, don't be ashamed of your opinion and don't make excuses that it's a parody when it's not. Occasionally, there may be a sharper joke, but everything is ultimately resolved peacefully, so supporters of the genre can't argue against it. And even though Lindsay and Rachel look good in it, it doesn't change the fact that I've seen everything in various versions elsewhere and the script lacks any more original situation that would surprise. In this tiresome presentation, you can't rely on proven clichés. Tina Fey's clever humor still needed some polishing. (06.08.2007)

It is indeed incredible bollocks, but quite entertaining and, in the current trend of similar comedies, more or less on point. Lindsay Lohan is charming and does have something special. The jokes and gags work well in most cases, and the few awkward scenes get lost. It's a pity about the ending, which unfortunately undermines the whole film. By the way, Lizzy Caplan delivers a completely brilliant performance in the role of the sassy Janis. In the current mainstream of transoceanic comedies, it could possibly be considered slightly above average, benefiting primarily from a relatively dynamic direction and restrained acting performances. The best movie of its kind. Funny and concise in character (with the exception of the boring beefcake), very well made and with an excellent cast; these girls are a joy to watch. Maybe my weakness for Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lindsay Lohan (before her private life caught up with her) plays its part, but I always enjoy watching Mean Girls and once I’m in the mood, I find it hard to take my eyes away. A cult-movie that is criminally underrated here. 85% (18.06.2020)

Eine größtenteils gut gemachte Komödie mit einer sympathischen Besetzung und mehr als einer humorvollen Szene, die am besten beim ersten Mal funktioniert, aber ich schaue mir den Film trotzdem von Zeit zu Zeit gerne wieder an. Die Possen des Duos Damian-Janis, die liebenswert unbeholfene Lehrerin, gespielt von Tina Fey, die undurchsichtige Mutter mit dem Gesicht von Amy Poehler, die Szene mit der toten Braut, die ehrlichen Geständnisse der geschädigten Schülerinnen, die verschiedenen Streiche gegen Regina, die Weihnachtsaufführung usw. - das ist die Liste der lustigen Sequenzen, die dieser Klassiker aus dem Highschool-Umfeld bietet. Auf den ersten Blick ist es ein durchschnittlicher Streifen, der aber auch nach mehrmaligem Probieren nicht langweilig wird. (23.12.2018)

I asked myself, what could surprise me about this comedy that is considered by many to be absolutely great? It surprised me right from the beginning when I found out that Tina Fey wrote the screenplay and also played one of the teacher roles. I understand to some extent what she meant with the film, essentially a comedy with a moral message, but unlike similar movies, it has something extra that works here. It's the humor that is genuinely funny at times. Some scenes, as if they were written for her colleagues from Saturday Night Live, where she was the main writer for a long time, are like gags. That woman has humor in her blood and she managed to get something out of a topic that is so worn out - an innocent girl ends up in a school full of mean girls - meaning bitches - and it's up to her how she behaves. Simply a story about how a beautiful closed-off girl becomes a nasty and vulgar girl who eventually... But no, I won't deprive you of revealing the ending. Lindsay Lohan surprised me in this movie, playing the good/bad girl, and not only did it suit her, but she simply fit into that role. What happened to her later... it's a pity to talk about it. I prefer Rachel McAdams in her other movies. Although the moral message is quite exaggerated, it can be handled and in the end, one leaves the movie quite satisfied.
