The Dirt: Sie wollten Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll

A rougher and quite brutal version of Bohemian Rhapsody that is quite direct in showing how to live heavy me(n)tal. The Mötley Crüe band is the mother of all classics and I think no other band has gone through such adventures like the guys from this band. It may be fun for some, while for others it would be a nightmare. I am surprised that everyone lived to see the shooting of this film. The acting performances are awesome, and I have no objections as to the music. Some scenes border with genius, for example the one with Ozzy or when the filmmakers decided to show an average day of a rocker in bullet points. The Dirt is still a crazy trip, but thanks to the way it is told I cannot say it is your regular biopic. On the contrary. If I liked their music a bit more and found one good reason to like these guys as people, I would give it five stars. This way it is a solid four, but just because I don’t know what the real meaning of friendship in this film is. Plus Netflix was involved, which is definitely not a coincidence. (09.05.2019)

Ich möchte ein paar nette Worte über den Film The Dirt: Sie wollten Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll schreiben. Nein, er ist nicht gut. Aber Hand aufs Herz, denken Sie wirklich, dass ein Film über Mötley Crüe, der außerdem als Produktion der Band selbst entstand und gemäß Büchern aller vier Mitglieder erstellt wurde, gut sein könnte? Das Ergebnis ist gewissermaßen eine glammetale Bohemian Rhapsody, mit einem Touch an The Wolf of Wall Street, ein Film darüber, dass ungeachtet dessen, was passiert ist, die Band ist und bleibt vor allem eine Familie. Im Vergleich zu Bohemian Rhapsody bekommen wir hier etwas mehr Unzucht, sexuelle Pikanterien, Kokainschnupfen aus dem Allerwertesten, Heorinshots, Herumgelaufe ohne Hosen, Demolieren von Zimmern, Urinlecken an einem Pool, oder wiederum den Allerwertesten, diesmal gar in aller Öffentlichkeit zu sehen ... Nun, die erste Hälfte macht also Spaß und Madmans Erscheinung aus dem Land Oz gehört zu einem der Höhepunkte. In der zweiten bekommt man bereits vor lauter Gerührtheit Schnupfen und das Ganze ist ebenso überzeugend, als wenn ein Drama über den Tod eines Kindes der Exklusivregisseur für Jackass Country-Komödien dreht. Einen Oscar wird es hierfür wahrscheinlich nicht verliehen werden, obwohl es besser geschnitten ist als Bohemian Rhapsody und es gibt hier ebenso schreckliche Perücken zu sehen. Die Tatsache, dass Mötley Crüe eine gute Band ist, wird Sie auch nicht mehr überzeugen. Jedoch dass Glam eine rindsviehhohle Metalmutation war, und diese vier das Ganze als authentisch empfanden, dem kann man glauben schenken. Gott segne die Kinder des Biests! (26.03.2019)

The better the carefree, action-packed, introductory “fuck life, fuck us, fuck everybody" half is, the worse the sentimental second half is, in which the cruel clash with the reality of life happens. As long as Tremaine shoots wild escapades in the style of Jackass, breaking through the fourth wall in alcoholic, drug- and sex-fuelled ecstasy, it goes like clockwork. As soon as he has to cover, piece by piece (and under the strict supervision of the band itself serving as producers), almost a decade of personal tragedies with a serious tone but without a clear goal, it falls apart in his hands. Which a pity, because at first it works incredibly well. In any case, several scenes (especially the “day on tour" and sunbathing with Ozzy) have, unlike the film itself, memorable moments, when in ten or twenty years you will find yourself thinking, "man, I vividly remember that one scene, but what was the name of the film?
