Tim Melville ist ein netter 24jähriger Mann aus einfachen Verhältnissen, der sich mit Gelegenheitsjobs über Wasser hält. Wegen seiner leicht unterdurchschnittlichen Intelligenz wird er häufig von anderen ausgenutzt. Als er die ledige, 40jährige Mary Horton kennenlernt und ihr im Garten hilft, entwickelt sich zwischen den beiden eine tiefe Freundschaft, die beider Leben bereichert. Doch als sich bei Tim romantische Gefühle für Mary anbahnen, geht sie auf Distanz. Bald schon kommen ihr jedoch Zweifel über ihre eigenen Gefühle. (Verleiher-Text)

The film starts with the standard introductions where Mel Gibson is introduced in the role of this weird but nice guy who doesn’t seem to be intellectually disabled per se, but who at the same time is no Stephen Hawking. On top of that, he’s wearing these really tight short shorts, a black T-shirt and he keeps mowing the same spot on the lawn in the garden again and again. That’s probably to make an impression on the landlandy, femme fatale and actually also the dominatrix of the 1970s – Piper Laurie. I actually watched the movie out of interest, it being one of Mel Gibson’s very first movies. And I have to say that Mad Max is a different league.
