Season 1 (2022) (S01)

Englisch The first season unpleasantly surprised me with its sluggish pace at first, but then I realized it had a certain charm and truly felt like Oklahoma. In fact, Oklahoma strongly reminded me of Montana from Far Cry 5, so I quite enjoyed all the local Second Amendment enthusiasts. Dwight "Cinque Stelle" "General" Manfredi really entertained me. Sylvester Stallone seemed to be enjoying his role. Even though this simple story was not without its flaws, I decided to ignore them because, apart from the second episode, I found it very enjoyable (and unexpectedly so), so instead of searching for flaws, I'm patiently waiting for the next season. / Lesson learned: When diplomacy fails in the States, guess what happens? Nach Westen, alter Mann (2022) (S01E01)

Englisch I often hear the opinion that Sylvester Stallone is not exactly an amazing actor. If I hadn't seen Oscar and Demolition Man, I would agree that he is only fit for action movies. The fact is, when he is right for the role, Sly still brings me joy even in his advanced age, and I would say that the role of Dwight fits him. The pace of the first episode wasn't exactly fast, but the plot got me hooked, so I'm looking forward to the next episode, which, unfortunately, doesn't happen with every series for me. If the creators don't mess something up, the old-school gangster transported to today's crazy times could work well for me, especially since he is occasionally surprised by new technologies and has to overcome the age gap. Plus, I really enjoy listening to Stallone's voice, so I'm really glad that I didn't watch the dubbed version. / Lesson learned: Old practices can become new again in the present. ()

Mittelpunkt des Universums (2022) (S01E02)

Englisch The second episode was even less eventful than the previous one, yet I cannot say I didn't enjoy it. However, my entertainment was provided solely by Dwight "Cinque Stelle" Manfredi, whose one-liners kept me engaged while the plot stagnated. The creators focused mainly on keeping everything politically correct, so important matters were pushed to the sidelines. Instead, the focus was on who had the right to wear dreadlocks. When I add to that the somewhat clichéd subplot with the daughter, it becomes quite clear why I slightly lowered my rating this time. I have no choice but to hope for better days. / Lesson learned: Even organic products can surprise you. ()

Willkür (2022) (S01E03)

Englisch Wow! The situation improved rapidly, and I enjoyed the third episode much more than the previous one. A lot happened in the forty-minute runtime, so I can't complain about a lack of entertainment. On the contrary, the creators filled the episode with action and great humor. Dwight Manfredi made sure that I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue. And as if that weren't enough, the main hero effortlessly crossed the generation gap again this time, which, considering his birth date, I find to be an admirable performance. Before I started watching the series, I thought Oklahoma was a relatively peaceful and boring state, but now I'm not so sure about that anymore. / Lesson learned: The profession of a driving instructor is risky for many reasons. ()

Besuchszeiten (2022) (S01E04)

Englisch The second episode seemed like a momentary slip, as I have been thoroughly enjoying the other episodes so far. And besides the exciting plot and characters, I must not forget about the overall atmosphere, which I find very relaxing. I couldn't be dissatisfied when I remembered that I had only expected some easy entertainment from the series because I got so much more. I know it's premature because there is still plenty of room for it to change for the worse, but I have to say that the first season so far exceeds my original expectations. And this realization naturally fills me with joy. / Lesson learned: Don't turn the other cheek. It's what you're told by people who, until recently, forced others to believe that the Earth is flat. ()

Maut-Joe (2022) (S01E05)

Englisch The fifth episode belonged to the category of filler episodes designed to spread out the plot to achieve the contracted number of episodes (nine in this case). The main storyline was almost abandoned, and the story's pace significantly slowed down, mainly focusing on family relationships and events from the past. Yet, I was far from dissatisfied. I thought Dwight's meeting with his daughter would be just another annoying experience for me, but it gave the story force. I'm starting to realize that I am beginning to overlook the shortcomings of the series, which can only be attributed to the fact that this show has somehow gotten under my skin. I enjoy it all, and under such circumstances, you cannot expect harsh criticism from me. / Lesson learned: Self-control is a form of art. ()

Stallgeruch (2022) (S01E06)

Englisch I know that it may sound strange in this case, but events are gaining momentum on all fronts. Even I'm surprised I'm saying this about a series that flows calmly and sluggishly most of the time. One thing that slightly worries me is the fact that I am rooting for a group of criminals. Positive characters are almost non-existent here, but it's hard for me to take that as a mitigating circumstance. Anyway, I had a great time again, and I have a feeling that it will not only last but get even better. / Lesson learned: Everyone talks about honor, but I wouldn't rely too much on it. ()

Verscharrt (2022) (S01E07)

Englisch It's great that the creators haven't gotten nervous with the approaching end of the first season, and they are keeping up their standard which is a decent above-average compared to many other series. The main thing, which has hardly changed since the beginning, is an extremely slow pace. It surprises me how the creators managed to combine this element with the increasing tension, which is becoming increasingly prominent. Sure, it's still an undemanding series, but it's filmed entirely differently than I expected, and I mean that as a compliment. I don't even know why I'm so hooked on this series. Clearly, it's not anything special, but it just kind of clicked. Even the seventh episode didn't disappoint me, and I strongly doubt that any of the following episodes will. / Lesson learned: Only get into the bathtub with a non-slip mat. ()

Lehmwände (2023) (S01E08)

Englisch I think it's very nice of the creators to have their weak moment already in the second episode instead of ruining my experience of the final episodes. I commend the well-functioning and unconventional combination of slow pace, increasing tension, and increasingly frequent action. I knew I would enjoy myself again, and it turned out that I was right. What else can I say? Many shows don't resonate with me because I am not their target audience, but Tulsa King was evidently made for people like me. / Lesson learned: Violence begets violence, begets violence, begets violence, begets violence... ()

Gute Reise (2023) (S01E09)

Englisch The first season's finale went almost exactly as I expected (except for the very ending), so I should probably be complaining about its predictability, but I won't. Why? Because I had a good time again. Motivational speeches really annoy me, so I wasn't happy about the appearance of William Wallace, played by Dwight Manfredi, but it was the only major flaw. The rest were just trivialities: The shootout in the bar didn't attract any attention in the city. Everyone was pretty okay with them becoming killers in a matter of minutes (but I guess that's somehow expected in the States. You can call yourself lucky if you don't get shot while you're still at school). But who cares? I had fun :-) / Lesson learned: Don't swallow a flying projectile. ()
