Eine Gruppe von Entdeckern und Dokumentarfilmemachern macht sich auf die Reise zum geheimnisvollen Skull Island, wo sie die Legende von einem Riesengorilla namens Kong auf ihren Wahrheitsgehalt überprüfen wollen. Tatschlich stoßen sie in dem von der Zivilisation geschützten Dschungel auf prähistorische Tiere und schließlich deren Erzfeind Kong, der sich auf den ersten Blick in die schöne Schauspielerin Ann Darrow verliebt und sie entführt.
