Dogtown Boys

Wonderfully paced and filmed with a relaxed ease, but I found myself bored at times from the sometimes shallow depiction of interpersonal relationships. A solid picture about the beginnings, not just the commercialization, of skateboarding. Good in terms of directing, interesting in terms of visuals, appropriate in terms of casting. It has good pacing, not leaving time for boredom, although I would have liked to had a taste of the atmosphere when these kids were completely laid back and everything was just cool. But still, this is interesting and if you are a surfing and skateboarding enthusiast, this is definitely a picture for you. And, even if these two sports mean nothing to you, you risk no personal harm by watching this. Or not as much harm as if you went outside onto the street to try skateboarding in the flesh. Just as the protagonists search for themselves in the whirlwind of the big city, the moviegoer must search for valuable crumbs and the key ingredients in the film on their own, in a tangle of ballast and a sometimes unbalanced story. Some things you can find, others not. Still, it's quite a daring tale "based on a true story" with the right guys acting in a momentary comedy, a film about rebellion, sport and a touching drama. Was mich am meisten überrascht hat - dass dieser Film von einer Frau gedreht wurde. Was mich am meisten nicht überrascht hat - die hervorragende schauspielerische Leistung von Heath Ledger. Nach einer halben Stunde habe ich überlegt auszuschalten, ich kann es nicht leiden, wenn Tagediebe, die sich wie Primitivlinge aufführen, zu Legenden stilisiert werden. Doch nach und nach zog mich der Film in seinen Bann und das Ende hat mich ergriffen. Für die Musik eine Eins. (30.03.2010)
