Necrotongue

The longer I watch this series, the more disappointed I feel. Guy Ritchie used to make great films, so I was expecting witty British humor, fantastic action, and a lot of original ideas from this show. Instead, the script feels forced at times with a highly predictable plot that leaves me shrugging at every reveal. / Lesson learned: Life has its share of minor and major disappointments.

Well, it's official — the Korean crew has won me over. They kicked off with some action-packed demolition, ensuring that the high-energy scenes wouldn't disrupt the slower-paced drama that followed. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. / Lesson learned: Sometimes, you're just this close to that dream beach house.

This time, the Korean creators surprised me by ditching their usual formula and skipping the typical action-packed finale. Instead, this episode filled in more pieces of the puzzle and featured a lot of soul-searching. Surprisingly, the slower pace didn’t hurt the episode at all. I feel like the Koreans have wrapped me around their finger with this series, and I'm forgiving things here that I might criticize in other shows. / Lesson learned: When your inner struggles manifest outwardly, it can make for quite a peculiar sight.

What a strange episode — dark and threatening. Everyone had an air of mystery, uttering words that hinted at threats to one side or another. There were super secret plans being hatched, which I assume will be dramatically revealed in the finale and it was all starting to get on my nerves. This wasn’t one of those episodes I enjoyed. / Lesson learned: "Hi, great to see you for the second time ever. Could you launder fifteen million for me?" Yeah, that really came off as believable.

I was really looking forward to this one... I generally love Polish films and series, but occasionally there's a dud. I haven't been lucky lately — first, I suffered through Forst, and today I "treated" myself to this oddity. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. The script was incredibly weak, and the only actor I enjoyed was Maciej Stuhr. I expect to laugh during a comedy, and I only managed that during the first Zidan scene. Otherwise, it felt like a bizarre, dysfunctional mix of Gosford Park, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and a few other titles. It seems the creators got a bit carried away. / Lesson learned: A patent is a patent, but mithril is mithril.

Despite a few illogical moments, this episode skillfully balanced moods, blending tension, drama, and the usual action-packed scenes. Even though I think the creators revealed a bit too much, I still had a great time. / Lesson learned: If you're playing a villain, be careful not to take it too far into Joker territory. 5*-

The Korean creators have found their formula and seem to be sticking with it, and I’m all for it. Even though you can predict that each episode will follow the pattern of investigation (loaded with drama and tension) leading to a wild action-packed ending, it works for me. I’m thoroughly entertained. The only downside is those horribly executed bumper-to-bumper car chases. / Lesson learned: Even a Korean cop can chew gum like a Canadian coach.

Light breeze, slight rain, and sixteen hours without internet. I thought I wouldn't write anything today... / The series has its positives, it also has many downsides, but above all, it remains an entertaining matter. However, the fifth episode aroused a lot of negative emotions in me when it involved an ethnicity with which I have a serious and unremovable problem. Apparently, I suffer from something that could probably be called selective racism because when you put representatives of both of our largest Asian minorities next to each other, I have a very nice relationship with the Vietnamese, which sometimes goes beyond admiration (although occasionally a worm appears in their apple), while I perceive the Rajasthani immigrants unequivocally negatively based on repeated personal experiences (several healthy pieces of apple are not too visible for the amount of worms). For this reason, the creators amused me but didn't completely please me. / Lesson learned: Knowing how to read and write is not so important if you master numbers, have the laws at your fingertips, and know the word dyscriminacyja.

Each new episode gets more ridiculous, with an overabundance of total idiots among the characters. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this parade of absurdity. It was basically another side plot used as a delaying tactic, but I had a good laugh and learned that English nobility collects almost anything (just like many weirdos withot a noble title). / Lesson learned: German Shepherds often have quite the refined palate.

Episode three felt different from the previous one —I  was even ready to write about the shift in atmosphere and the noticeable drop in action. What a fool I was! I totally underestimated the Koreans because after that wild ending, I had to check in the mirror to make sure I didn't have any blood splatters on my face. What I said about the change in atmosphere still stands, though. The police investigation, the action, and the various stakeouts (even if some were a bit naive) were just as entertaining as the previous gang training scenes. / Lesson learned: In crime? Always take out the scumbags; second chances are dangerous.
