Sanjuro (1962)

Englisch Toshirô Mifune and Akira Kurosawa are once again in very good shape, so their collaboration simply works. Samurai films in this rendition have their own poetry, they have good characters and honestly, I'm quite glad that this time Akira Kurosawa wasn't too extravagant and settled for a film with a runtime of one and a half hours.

Scorched Earth (2018)

Englisch I really like Gina Carano, so I don't mind that the film isn't downright brilliant, because she gets plenty of space here. It's just a shame that her role doesn't have more action moments - she mostly gets by with the use of guns, which in her case just marks untapped potential. This film’s an interesting variation on the western.

Six Shooter (2004)

Englisch Martin McDonagh simply manages to captivate, whether it's in a short film or a long one. In this film, you wonder for a while what it's actually going to be about, and what good can come of it, but then you just end up staring at what's going on until the end. Once again it's great, both in terms of acting and writing, and it's pretty damn gritty, but also still visceral and emotional.

Wer mit dem Teufel reitet (1999)

Englisch Ang Lee is definitely a good director, and let's face it, he did a very good job capturing the North vs South war, one wouldn't even say that he actually doesn't have proper roots in America. But still, I couldn't help but find the film simply uninteresting. The characters and the direction the story took didn't entertain me.

The Ritual (2017)

Englisch It's a bit of a surprise to me that such a good horror film came from the UK, because I've recently become accustomed to seeing films from there that are almost at the C level. At least in the horror genre, anyway. However, The Ritual perfectly shows that there are filmmakers in the UK who know how to make a horror film. David Bruckner has the skills to do that. You can find good films in his filmography even before The Ritual.

Downsizing (2017)

Englisch This film is a pretty significant agitation, but it's conceived in such an epic and sometimes absurd way that even though I wanted to sleep I just kept watching on and on because I wanted to know how it would turn out. I wasn’t blown away by the ending, but thanks to the acting, visuals and script, this isn't just a matter of empty flailing, and there is a message in there.

Zahradnictví: Rodinný přítel (2017)

Englisch Because of the promotion of Garden Store: A Family Friend, and in fact from the entire trilogy, we tend to have too high of expectations that simply cannot be fulfilled. Ondřej Sokol has a great role in the film, which deserved more than a few words at the end. When you think about it, he's actually the only one who stands out. The film lacks humor, and although the drama is good, it's too drawn out even in the first film.

Quadrophenia (1979)

Englisch The film Quadrophenia is a great depiction of the time, and it was filmed fifteen years after the film takes place. There’s a great choice of actors and singers, and great scenes that may be very long at times, but they still work. The ending is wonderfully symbolic, but it has the necessary message. And most of all great music.

Permission (2017)

Englisch I thought this might be quite an interesting film about when a couple, just before they get married, say that maybe it's a good idea to see others, that it would be better if they find someone else on the side before they get married. Unfortunately, the film thought it was clever, which turned out to be false. It’s also not very smart, either.

Prodigy - Übernatürlich (2017)

Englisch The film doesn't have a bad theme at all. A psychiatrist is talking to a young girl who could be very dangerous. It’s an interesting contrast between youth and adulthood, experience and genius, and madness. However, in my opinion, they didn't manage to make the most of it and at times I felt that the film was getting quite boring and not going anywhere.
