Ace Wonder: Message from a Dead Man (2014)
This is an average family film, which doesn't surprise at all, but it was obvious that the actors enjoyed it and maybe they even managed to transfer it onto child audiences. An adult viewer might not notice the characters' passion, but the hour and a half spent on the film need not be perceived as a big waste of time.
24 City (2008)
This is an interestingly-shot film. I thought it was interesting in the way the individual characters were filmed, as if it was a documentary. It works and it creates a very specific impression of the fates presented here. Even a Chinese or Asian film can be innovative and different in this way.
80 Minutes (2008)
It would almost seem that this is supposed to be a pretty suspenseful film, but it turns out not to be, even though there is a clearly defined time interval. I think that much more could have been made from the substance, but the creators of 80 Minutes failed to do that and it ended up being quite boring.
10x10 (2018)
It's nothing ground-breaking, but a pretty good game was played in that small space, which could have ended maybe a little faster, but I still liked the rivalry between the prisoner and the jailer, when you're not sure who's actually the bad person. Great choice of actors, with both having something ambivalent about them, which was needed for the roles.
Good Vibrations - Sex vom anderen Stern (2000)
It's pretty funny in places, and I had a lot of fun with it. Particularly the way the alien perceives some of the specifics of human society is amusing. It must be said that this film is not ridiculous, not all the time anyway, and more could be found in it. But the actors played their parts well. Yet the film probably gets lost among the rest.
Vapors (1965)
A film that was certainly controversial for its time, but not so much today, as there is nothing visually controversial about it. The main controversy lies in the dialogues and how the men behave towards each other. It is slightly experimental, but more of a realistic and human exploration of a group of men with homosexual tendencies.
Tsukiji Wonderland (2016)
The Tsukiji fish market is definitely a place I'd like to visit. I'll admit, I didn't know it existed, but it's definitely a place worth paying attention to. Fish lovers must be absolutely blown away, but so may others. The fact that such a colossus is able to function on a daily basis is simply amazing and should be highlighted.
The Woman Who Left (2016)
Even though the film is almost four hours long, it is worth watching if only because of how well it is able to work with black and white cameras, even in this day and age. It is indeed very slow, this isn't an action revenge story, but it's a Filipino reflection on life in a society that is by no means perfect, but it is what it is.
Zahradnictví: Nápadník (2017)
If director Hřebejk had taken the trouble to turn the trilogy into a TV series, if he had divided it into at least six parts, and if he had played more with some of the motifs and left some out, this might have been really good. The way that it is, the trilogy tends to grow in quality, but even the last film isn't really great and doesn't wow you.
Wo steckt Sidney Hall? (2017)
This is a somewhat lengthy story about how Sidney Hall got lost and the search for him. A young, up-and-coming and very talented author, with some personal issues thrown in, the story almost writes itself, and truthfully it's not as great as it wants to be. I got a little tired of watching some of the characters after a while.
