I will never forget our world literature teacher's reflection that Jiří was the best actor of his generation. It was a bit out of place, but who would have thought about it at the time... the main thing was that we got to avoid the teaching.

Göttlich, das ist was für mich. Die fatale Margaret und Topol an der Grenze zwischen Surrealität und Realität.

Eine große Enttäuschung für die Fans, aber auch eine große Seltenheit. Eine Serienadaption der Romanheftreihe "Geisterjäger John Sinclair", die seit 1973 nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in allen Ländern mit Sprachen, in die das Original übersetzt wurde, die Leser unterhält.

Ein Film, der wie Wein reift. Perfekt sogar im Vergleich zu "Jozova Hanule" von Květa Legátová. Natürlich werde ich nie vergessen, wie wir mit einer jungen Lehrerin aus Colorado über das scheinbare "Nichtende" diskutierten. Doch das ganze Missverständnis beruhte auf der Tatsache, dass die junge Amerikanerin solche dominanten Details wie die Mode und die Entwicklung der Automobilindustrie nicht verstand. Ohne ihre Kenntnis ist es dann unmöglich, die Zeitverschiebung zu verstehen.

"I'll watch him for you," or the journey to create a new face for Czech cinema. Are the mothers of adult children entitled to a life of their own? What about the kids? Aren't they a lot smarter than their parents these days? I'd say they are because the fast pace of life is inherent in them and they don't have the need for the secrecy that Julie does. But Julie, played by Iva Bittová, certainly lived up to the expectations she raised in Zelary, there’s no doubt about that.

In 1962 they still couldn't make retro films with a proper period set design, and it was also very difficult for the next 20 years. Once again we are witnessing a film where in the concentration camps the women prisoners apparently read books by Burda...

This is a brilliant mining drama that reminded me a little of The Shaft of Buried Ideas with Rudolf Myzet and a little of Pittsburgh with Marlene Dietrich. Vlasta Fabianová acts in a similar dramatic tone as Zarah Leander and she is lucky enough to repeat it several times (to my delight because I can't stand her in any other way). The excellent feud between the tragic Štěpánek and the heroic Boháč is nicely undermined by Jaroslav Vojta and crowned as always by the brilliant man of the people L. H. Struna.

Es tröstet mich, dass das auch bei uns zu Hause nicht beliebt war, und dabei hatte sie mein Vater seinerzeit herbeigesehnt. Aber mit den Augen von heute betrachtet, fand er daran nicht viel Interessantes. Und diesen Weg gehen wir gemeinsam, Hand in Hand. Aber es ist ein ganz normaler Kriminalroman, der vom Gefühl des Jahres '66 beherrscht wird. In der Hauptrolle ein Blödmann und eine Blödmännin, die sich durch die Farben ihrer Strumpfhosen, grün und rot, voneinander unterscheiden. Und ich finde Vanessa Redgrave erst in den letzten Jahren wunderschön, also je älter sie wird. Ich kann eben den verschwitzten, trendigen Londoner Mädchen von damals nichts abgewinnen.

Ein Film voller Widersprüche. Ein CinemaScope in Farbe (zuerst gedreht für 20th Century Fox, aber erst nach Das Gewand veröffentlicht, aber später der erste Film, der 1961 in einem Schnitt fürs Fernsehen gezeigt wurde) wird hauptsächlich für Innenräume verwendet. Das Haupttrio der Models ist unbezahlbar, inhomogen, doch Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe und Lauren Bacall haben sich trotzdem etwas zu sagen. Das Drehbuch ist eine zu etwas Spektakulärem erhobene rote Bibliothek, die Vorlage bildeten zwei Theaterstücke: "The Greeks Had a Word for It" (1930) von Zoe Akins und "Loco" (1946) von Dale Eunson und Katherine Albert. Es ist einer der wenigen MM-Filme, die ich mein ganzes Leben lang sehe habe und die mich nicht stören. Das zeitlose Potenzial wird durch die Neuauflagen in Form der gleichnamigen Sitcom von 1957 und einer modernen TV-Fortsetzung How to Marry a Billionaire: A Christmas Tale aus dem Jahr 2000 und die Tatsache bestätigt, dass Nicole Kidman nach 2007 die Rechte an einem weiteren Remake für sich selbst gekauft hat.

This is a negative wannabe sci-fi spiciness of the 1980s, adorned with the roles of Rosák and Matásek. A film that is unforgettable... in the worst sense of the word. It's really only good as a bad party joke.
