Futurama

Eine unmenschliche Abreibung, die an Dynamik gewinnt, wenn die Schöpfer erkennen, welche Themen/Handlungen sich in eine so konzipierte Welt einfügen lassen. Im Gegensatz zu den etwas drögen Simpsons ist Futurama ein frecher Weltraumtrip für (Nicht-)Erwachsene. (06.05.2009)

When things with the yellow family were going downhill fast, this series from the very same creative team came to life. And its quality has (at the moment rather had) a rising tendency. The main difference from The Simpsons is the fact that there the authors were limited by the rules of the Earth of 20th century while here they could unleash their fantasies… And they made most of it. So I figured I'd watch it for educational purposes. After all, I wasn’t finding the Simpsons themselves that entertaining any anymore, but it was still watchable. This I didn't find anywhere near as funny. I don't know why, but it didn't appeal to me at all. I didn't enjoy it. But you know what? That doesn’t bother me. Futurama is one of the biggest cults of animated TV production and I remarkably avoided it for a long time. My expectations were supported by great ratings and enthusiastic reviews from its fans. After the first two episodes, I was heavily disappointed and determined to give it 2 stars, but my feelings improved in the following episodes and I added a star, but at the end of the first season, I returned to the 2-star rating. The basic thesis that Futurama is a more uncompromising and better version of the worn-out The Simpsons did not come true for me. What is functional and positive about Futurama is obviously borrowed (whether it's character types or plot patterns), but Futurama is more inconsistent. There are simply episodes where I hardly laugh, and above all, the humor contained in them does not have the satirical dimension like The Simpsons, which can still provoke, and the jokes are directed toward deeper reflection. Futurama's jokes are softer and more straightforward. It's surprising because, unlike The Simpsons, the writers could completely let loose, they were not bound by mundane reality, but the motif of the time jump of an average person from the end of the 20th century to the distant future is heavily underutilized. Overall impression: 45%. The producer of The Simpsons simply decided to target a teenage audience, and I am not that target group. (13.12.2009)

Truly kick-ass. Fars told me that if I liked BBS, I would just love the series (well, maybe he said it a little differently, but my memory is no longer what it used to be) and he was right. So far there hasn’t been one episode that I actually didn’t like. - - So half way through 2010 we get a new batch of 26 episodes. I hope the same quality as so far. Um... three years later. The restart was worth it, the side effect was a fluctuation in quality, but still I’m glad that it happened. The most ingenious episodes were the ones about time travel. Even the last episode was one of those and Futurama again finished at its peak, almost shedding a tear. I wonder if there’ll be another restart someday. (19.01.2008)
