Steven Spielberg's first toy from a visit to the Natural Science Museum was a small steel Triceratops. At that time, he did not know that one day animals like this would come to life on the silver screen. A chance meeting with author Michael Crichton launched a three-year journey to create a fictional reality full of long-dead dinosaurs. This documentary about Hollywood artistic technical breakthroughs is a story about the period before the movie's release, chronicling its extensive production process and also the transformation of old technology into new, involving experimentation which sometimes goes beyond the borders of imagination. Computers have now become the most powerful film production tool for modifying images – initially their use was limited to extraordinary creatures such as dinosaurs, but in the end even cars and human faces have succumbed to this sophisticated practice. Phil Tippett, Stan Winston and Dennis Muren are the kings of this technology. Thanks to them, Spielberg could show frightening monsters in his films, including the first King Kong to move so smoothly that it truly gives a lifelike impression of the creatures that once ruled the world.
