Ricky, Abby und ihre zwei Kinder leben in Newcastle. Sie sind eine starke, liebevolle Familie, in der jeder für den anderen einsteht. Während Ricky sich mit Gelegenheitsjobs durchschlägt, arbeitet Abby als Altenpflegerin. Egal, wie sehr die beiden sich jedoch anstrengen, wissen sie, dass sie niemals unabhängig sein oder ihr eigenes Haus haben werden. Doch dann heißt es: Jetzt oder nie! Dank der digitalen Revolution bietet sich Ricky die Gelegenheit! Abby und er setzen alles auf eine Karte. Sie verkauft ihr Auto, damit Ricky sich einen Lieferwagen leisten und als selbständiger Kurierfahrer durchstarten kann. Die Zukunft scheint verlockend. Doch der Preis für Rickys Selbstständigkeit erweist sich als wesentlich höher als gedacht. Die Familie muss enger zusammenrücken und um ihren Zusammenhalt kämpfen. (NFP)

So authentisch und mit so viel Ehrlichkeit kann Ken Loach von "normalen Menschen“ und ihren Problemen erzählen? Und man sollte auch mal über die ausgezeichnete Arbeit mit den Schauspielerinnen und Schauspielern reden. Ein schönes ziviles Drama, in dem sich die Menschen wirklich lieb haben, obwohl sie die vielleicht größte Familienkrise durchmachen. Ich weiß eigentlich nicht, wann ich zum letzten Mal im Film ein so greifbar gespieltes Verständnis und eine Unterstützung von zwei Menschen gesehen habe wie hier zwischen Hitchen und einer fast Nicht-Schauspielerin Honeywood. Another of Ken Loach’s angry social dramas, Sorry We Missed You reveals level by level why precarity of work is one of the worst symptoms of the current economic model. The uncompromising and deliberately frustrating conclusion evokes compassion and anger, the combination of which both arouses interest in those who are paying the highest price for maintaining neoliberalism and provokes action. Therefore, this is an important film and, together with the Irish drama Rosie, one of the best films that have been made on the topic of workers’ lives in recent years. 80%

Paradoxically, Loach’s perfectly escalating, realistic drama of a disintegrating family may come across as the director’s indictment of a billing system that, in a buck-passing manner, denies responsibility for employees and, at the same time, pushes them to work overtime, be available at all times and subject themselves to stress. But it can also serve as a powerful contraceptive showing, as a fundamental obstacle to the happiness of two adults,that they have kids for whom they sacrifice everything and who in turn grow up to be egocentric brats.

The ordeal of an aspiring courier, where the plot is driven by thugs, a cat o’ nine tails, and threats just to get to that yearned-for social thesis, whereas we know from Czech experience how easy it is to pull all those pesky problems into one when the courier is happily delivering parcels on the speed.
