In einer Winternacht, 1976, stirbt eine Prostituierte: brutal zugerichtet und erdrosselt mit ihrem BH. Für den Mord wird JACK UNTERWEGER (Johannes Krisch), der selbst im Rotlichtmilieu aufgewachsen ist, zu lebenslanger Haft verurteilt. Während seiner Gefängniszeit verfasst Jack eine Reihe von Gedichtbänden, die auch außerhalb des Gefängnisses auf ihn aufmerksam machen. Als er nach 15 Jahren dank zahlreicher prominenter Fürsprecher wie die Schriftsteller Günter Grass und Elfriede Jelinek vorzeitig aus der Haft entlassen wird, avanciert der »Knastpoet« zum Frauenschwarm und Liebling der Wiener Schickeria. Doch das Musterbeispiel einer geglückten Resozialisierung wird zunehmend infrage gestellt, als eine neue Prostituierten-Mordserie beginnt. (Lighthouse Home Entertainment)

When it comes to European cinematography, Austrian cinematography was a big unknown for me for a long time. I either remember the depressing works of Michael Haneke or the biopic Falco. Nothing else, unless I count TV shows. I have to say that Jack knocked me down pretty hard after I watched it. Every time I am about to see a movie and I don’t know what to expect, I am incredibly curious what the authors will come up and surprise me with. First of all, I would like to praise the actor Johannes Krisch, who portrayed Jack absolutely fantastically. The music was also very fitting for the story. On the other hand, I had trouble with some situations in the film, most of all with the fact that when Jack was released out of prison, everyone treated him incredibly nicely. What a strange approach to a former murderer. But okay. The finale was so awesome that I will forgive Jack for this. Thumbs up, the Austrian cinematography did a great job.
