Once you start feeling the effects of what invisible radiation can do, you might be trapped in an ongoing cacophony of terrible noise; but other symptoms can also occur in people affected by an intolerance to electromagnetic fields. And there’s virtually no getting away from it: in a country like France, radiation-free zones (or white spots) are very few and far between. Three people tormented by electromagnetic radiation tell us what they feel, what this does to their lives and how they try to get away from it. The film attempts to materialize these invisible waves by projecting the protagonists' suffering onscreen. This alternates with the reassuring sounds of water flowing, birds singing and the rustle of a forest—far away from transmitters, mobile phone traffic and electricity. Some of the victims see this as a solution and go seeking out white spots. Others find solace in caves or use aluminum foil as a weapon in the struggle against the waves. Dark Waves is an artistic film inspired by a range of interviews with people who suffer from the constant presence of radiation. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
