Las Vegas, Nevada. Die Cops Vincent (Jamie Foxx) und Sean (Tip „T.I." Harris) arbeiten hin und wieder auf eigene Rechnung. Als sie bei einem nächtlichen Einsatz eine millionenschwere Kokainlieferung erbeuten, haben sie keine Ahnung, dass der Stoff für den mächtigen Casino-Boss Stan Rubino (Dermot Mulroney) bestimmt ist. Der skrupellose Geschäftsmann fackelt nicht lange und kidnappt im Gegenzug Vincents Sohn Thomas (Octavius J. Johnson). So bleibt Vincent keine andere Wahl, als die heiße Ware zurückzugeben – allerdings durchkreuzen eine misstrauische Kollegin (Michelle Monaghan) und ein sadistischer Drogenbaron (Scoot McNairy) immer wieder seine Pläne. Im Lauf einer langen, schlaflosen Nacht muss Vincent all seine Cleverness und Muskelkraft aufbieten, um das Leben seines Sohns und sich selbst zu retten... (Tobis)

Baran bo Odar has gone from smart hackers back to the silly action genre, and he's quite comfortable there. The whole film takes place in a casino revolving around a pissed off Jamie Foxx, his kidnapped son, two cops, a drug dealer, bodyguards, the casino owner and 25 kilos of cocaine. It's got a pretty brisk pace, when it comes to the fights it's very good (the one in the kitchen with the bodyguard is awesome). Surprisingly, there is some R-rated action and an unexpected twist. So a good 70% fun. I'll gladly give a higher rating for the underrated 51%.

Baran bo Odar watched Miami Vice, Kingdom and a few episodes of CSI on TV, then made this boring, unimaginative and stupid as hell B-movie and presents it as an action ride through Las Vegas at night, where Jamie Foxx wears a similar shirt and badge as when he was Colin Farrell's partner, not forgetting to take a very similar photo of him on the posters to attract the fans. On top of that, the exposition of the bar scene in the style of the opening scene of Michael Mann's film is explicit but lacking in the poetics of the digital camera and a sense of hard and uncompromising realism. It's an insult to the fans. If it wasn’t for the interesting cast and the short running time, it would be unwatchable. I don't understand how such a schematically outdated and hackneyed film can be made in 2017 and released with A-list actors.

This film has quite a few illogicalities, but watching the fights I thought to myself that someone just wanted to make it look good and imaginative. Jamie Foxx's performance is pretty bad here, Michelle Monaghan and her investigation are nothing special, but it still has a charge and drive that caught me, even despite the predictability of the plot.
