Die junge Clara (Mackenzie Foy) findet sich in einer mysteriösen Parallelwelt wieder, als sie sich auf die Suche nach einem geheimnisvollen Schlüssel macht, der eine Kiste mit einem einzigartigen Geschenk öffnen soll. Im Land der Schneeflocken, im Land der Blumen und im Land der Süßigkeiten trifft sie auf allerlei seltsame Bewohner. Zusammen mit dem jungen Soldaten Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight) begibt sie sich schließlich ins unheilvolle Vierte Reich, das von der tyrannischen Mutter Gigoen (Helen Mirren) beherrscht wird.
