Ein verhängnisvoller Glückskeks, die Erde bebt, und schon ist es geschehen. Mutter und Tochter haben die Körper getauscht. Für einen Freitag muss nun die eine das Leben der anderen führen. Der "Blick über den Tellerrand" hat therapeutische Wirkung. Buchstäblich in der Haut des anderen zu stecken, verändert die Sichtweise.
Dr. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) ist eine angesehene Psychologin in Los Angeles, die nach einem privaten Schicksalsschlag, dem frühen Tod ihres Mannes, ihr neues Glück an der Seite von Ryan (Mark Harmon) gefunden zu haben scheint. Außerdem hat sie gerade ein Buch veröffentlicht - einen Ratgeber. Wenn da nur nicht die vielen Streitereien mit ihrer Teenager-Tochter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) wären. Nichts scheint die Mutter der Tochter recht machen zu können - und umgekehrt. Tess glaubt, Anna würde Ryan als neuen Mann in der Familie ablehnen, während Anna es total ungerecht findet, dass der Polterabend ihrer Mutter ausgerechnet an jenem Abend stattfinden soll, an dem sie einen ganz wichtigen Auftritt mit ihrer Band absolvieren muss. Und das sind nur zwei wichtige Fixpunkte einer schier endlos langen Liste von Dingen, über die Mutter und Tochter uneins sind. Doch dann passiert Unglaubliches. In Pei-Peis (Rosalind Chao) China-Restaurant erhalten Mutter und Tochter von Pei-Peis Mutter (Lucille Soong) einen Glückskeks mit einer kryptischen Nachricht. Dann bebt kurz die Erde - für L.A. nichts Besonderes. Doch am nächsten Morgen, einem Freitag, merken Tess und Anna, dass ihr Geist im Körper der anderen gefangen ist. Damit die anderen nichts merken und beide Zeit gewinnen, den Zauber rückgängig zu machen, muss Anna in Gestalt von Tess deren Patienten behandeln und in einer Talkshow auftreten, während es Tess als Anna wieder in die Highschool verschlägt - wo die Mutter die Bekanntschaft von Jake (Chad Michael Murray) macht - dem Jungen, in den Anna sich verliebt hat.

Ich traue meinen Augen nicht. Hollywood ist immer noch in der Lage, eine frische, schlaue, geschmackvolle und schöne Komödie zu produzieren. Eine sehr seltene Art des US-amerikanischen Vergnügens, die zu hundert Prozent das Potenzial des Stoffes nutzt, der eigentlich gar nicht originell ist. Nicht so psychologisch wie Besser geht's nicht, aber genauso intelligent und noch unterhaltsamer. Die Mädels sind einfach herrlich.

A delightful comedy that is all about the main acting tandem and their scenes together, full of funny moments and obvious improvisations. Jamie Lee Curtis, in particular, blows the others away and I wouldn't be afraid to call her performance legendary. There's not much point in assessing the story – there's exactly what's needed for no shortage of cracking moments and hilarious gags.

An intelligent, tasteful, family and, mainly, very funny comedy from Disney with decent pacing... Impossible? Not at all; all you need it a good idea involving swapping bodies, actors with a talent for comedy and a director with a feeling for gags. Jamie Lee Curtis easily lords over this picture, proving yet again that she has excellent comic timing and Lindsay Lohan is skillfully plays support. It is very clear that both of them enjoy themselves royally and carry the movie on their shoulders even during weaker interludes. If they had cast it any differently, I don’t believe this could have been even half as good. It’s true that all the jokes are the result of variations on one theme, but who cares? The movie has one downside: the first twenty minutes leading up to the swap isn’t up to the quality of the rest of the picture, so you just have to grin and bear that.

It's actually a tragedy when one realizes that the theme is perfectly exhausted and neither the script nor the direction are exceptional if we subject the film to a thorough analysis. However, it scores by maintaining a certain level, not using toilet humor, and not pandering cheaply. If this were the genre average, then American cinema would stand very high. The likable and experienced female cast delivers the maximum of their potential, resulting in a pleasant situational comedy with a reasonable duration. Overall impression: 70%.

A very pleasant surprise. Both lead actresses give truly great performances that are a joy to watch, especially Jamie Lee Curtis, who steals the whole film for herself and is irresistible in the body of her teenage daughter. Surprisingly, they don’t stick only to the original premise, but everything is also supported by a precise script and a good dose of serious humour, which the filmmakers don't spare. Don’t look for any intellectual or emotional levels in it, Freaky Friday doesn't have that despite its efforts, just have a good and inoffensive time. 80%
